Now about you...

The Proposal Technical Writer is responsible for writing and editing high-quality, compliant, and compelling proposals and data asset management for the Tepa Companies' Professional Services Division (PSD) with a focus on the federal market. The appropriate candidate for this position must have experience in interviewing Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to gather non-technical and technical data, a strong focus on compliance of written script to RFP requirements, as well as combining strategic messaging.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Leads SMEs to define assigned requirements (e.g., interviews, storyboards, outlines) for all types of proposal volumes - technical, management, past performance, staffing, resumes, transition, etc.
  • Edits and writes technical, management, resume, and/or past performance proposal sections
  • Provides direction and oversight to supporting writers
  • Works as part of a collaborative team to clearly articulate solution and strategy, approach to performing the work, experience, win themes, and discriminators
  • Maintains strong working relationships with SMEs, project managers and leadership within the Tepa Companies
  • Applies communication and interviewing skills to gather needed information from internal and external personnel to support writing activities
  • Writes clear, persuasive, and articulate proposal sections; translates complex ideas into easily understandable text
  • Adheres to, and assists with managing, the Tepa Proposal Style Guide which defines company language standards
  • Develops and maintains proposal content in Tepa's cloud-based data asset management (DAM) platform
  • Develops and implements process improvements, including training aides, to help improve proposal quality
  • Writes proposal narrative in accordance with Tepa's style, proposal manager guidance, and solicitation specifications
  • Maintains a comprehensive library of technical terminology, government acronyms, and documentation
  • Tech editing and assessment of proposal document for compliance and competitiveness prior to Gold Team review/submissions
  • Utilizes a variety of industry-standard software and technologies to gather information and perform job functions daily


What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, or communications, or 10+ working in a marketing or proposal environment
  • 5+ years of federal proposal experience preferred
  • 4+ years of demonstrated proposal writing and editing experience, preferably in the professional services market sector (engineering, environmental, and/or technology)
  • 4+ years utilizing InDesign, MS Word, and Acrobat DC Pro to create complex documents in a marketing and/or proposal environment
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, technical and creative writing as well as proofreading and editing
  • Strong understanding of DAM systems and software integration(s)
  • Understands Shipley method for proposal development
  • Proven proposal technical writing, editing, and white paper experience (examples of work requested)
  • Exceptional English and grammar skills with writing, editing, presenting
  • High energy, quick study with the ability to work in a fast pace and high demand environment
  • Excellent time management, organization and prioritization skills
  • Excellent computer skills and comfortable learning new technologies
  • Strong foundation in the use of Adobe Creative Suite software, with proficiencies in InDesign and Acrobat DC Pro (Photo Shop and Illustrator a plus)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and especially advanced MS Word) to create, edit and produce documents and supporting materials)
  • Proficient utilizing the Microsoft Teams 365 platform as a collaboration method in a remote environment
  • Experience managing content in a cloud-based DAM system
  • Ability to surge work schedule and work outside of traditional work hours to meet proposal demands
  • Drive collaboration efforts with internal resources to obtain all necessary information and documentation required for bid response
  • Strong writing and editorial skills. Must possess the ability to articulate complex technical subject matter to non-experts in a clear and understandable way. More importantly, must be capable of coaching other writers to attain this same goal
  • High level attention to detail
  • Demonstrated track record of success working in a high-volume deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to think strategically and contribute to team discussions relating to scopes and competitive strengths

Preferred (not required):
  • Previous experience working in the Architecture/Engineering/Construction (A/E/C) industries
  • Previous experience working in the federal business market; familiarity with federal procurement
  • Previous experience supporting 8(a) and/or Native American owned businesses
  • APMP certification
