Job Description

Position Summary:

ISI is looking for an experienced construction manager – mechanical engineer (CM-ME) with a background in mechanical systems construction engineering and expertise in the construction industry to provide owner's representative construction management services to a federal client in the healthcare industry. The CM-ME will support a federal client looking to plan, study, design, and manage ongoing construction projects of various sizes and complexity. Duties include providing analytical and planning, design, and construction management support services to assist the client. The position will support more senior government project managers and fellow contractor project managers, who will work as part of a more extensive design/construction program. The ability to lead and work as a team and independently is critical. ISI seeks an individual who communicates clearly, takes initiative, and embraces project ownership. This position will provide mentorship to junior teammates.

Responsibilities:

· Lead mechanical engineering projects including working cross-functionally with design teams, construction, field operations, and vendors.

· Lead design/construction activities for mechanical equipment: Chillers, Air Compressors, HVAC, Piping, and Mechanical support equipment.

· Possess knowledge of construction contract documents, including front-end and technical specifications and drawings, to readily understand and assess the requirements.

· Support the engineering and design efforts related to pre-construction. Support project managers who manage awarded construction projects. Experience in commercial/institutional facilities is required.

· Proactively supports the Government’s development of technical requirements, scopes of work, cost estimate analysis, and schedules for A/E services, including studies, reports, and drawings review. Provides reviews, analysis, professional opinions, ideas, alternative solutions, and recommendations.

· Independently schedules, leads and participates in weekly and monthly project progress meetings to evaluate schedule progress, identify departures from the accepted baseline schedule, and assess the risk to long-term project and program health. Assesses schedule risk and recommends mitigation strategies.

· Perform technical design reviews for systems and equipment.

· Design: Review requirements and impact on facility infrastructure systems. Review plan design, schedule, and construction drawings.

· Provide detailed reviews, lead review sessions, and coordinate the resolution of review comments with all team members.

· Review submittals, RFIs, and turnover documentation. Provide technical support for construction issues.

· Review commissioning scripts to ensure they accurately test all modes of operations. Witness key commissioning tests.

· Perform readiness review of new build projects to inform overall building acceptance.

· Maintain a positive posture in all safety programs and activities.

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required:

· CM-ME shall have six (6) years of experience practicing mechanical engineering.

· Experience reviewing design and construction plans against existing site conditions.

· Experience resolving unforeseen site and design conditions/problems and proposing cost-effective technical solutions.

· Experience conducting inspections and inventories of such structures to identify and note deficiencies, problems, or the general physical condition of such structures.

· Knowledge of all aspects of commercial hospital mechanical construction, including but not limited to underground mechanical installation, medical gas systems, domestic water systems, chilled water systems, and steam systems.

· Knowledge of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, testing and balancing, operations, sheet metal duct systems, and control systems, including direct digital controls; OR knowledge of building plumbing systems; OR knowledge of healthcare medical gas systems.

· Knowledge of conveying systems, including electric dumbwaiters and materials lifts, electric traction elevators, hydraulic elevators, pneumatic tube systems, and uniform dispensing equipment.

· Knowledge of mechanical design and installation for specialized medical and laboratory equipment, including but not limited to MRI, PET, CT, audiometric booths, fume hoods, biological safety cabinets, and sterilization equipment.

· Ability to provide cost estimates and take-offs for the mechanical contract modifications.

· Ability to determine compliance of work, materials, equipment, and installed work with contract requirements and industry standards.

· Knowledge of governmental contracting procedures, principles, guidelines, and public law.

· Must be a U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident with three (3) years or more of US work experience.

· Must be able to pass and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Preferred:

· Medical facilities experience.

· PE License (any state)

Required Education:

· The CM-ME shall possess a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited institution of higher learning.

Work Setting/Environment/Travel Requirements:

· Monday through Friday, Normal business hours 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
