Innovatus is the largest third-party ultrasound probe repair company in the world. The Denver team has world class capabilities to design and manufacture ultrasound array modules in support of these repair activities. This is complemented by our design and manufacture of highly specialized finished medical devices geared toward specialty applications in the field of Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound. These applications include products designed for transcranial neural surgery, laparoscopic surgery, cardiac surgery, central line placement, and probes intended for use with surgical robots. The Denver team also maintains ties with industry luminaries on emerging technologies, and supports cutting edge research in the fields of surgical ultrasound such as the integration of augmented reality into laparoscopic surgery for the improvement of patient care.

About the role:

The day-to-day activities of this candidate may include design of: product components (machined parts, injection molded parts, etc.), assembly fixtures and tools, and basic electronic components (cables, ‘simple’ PCBs and flex circuits). In addition, you will have close ties to the manufacturing process as the primary customer of your efforts. These duties will be done in the pursuit of Innovatus business activities in third party ultrasound probe repair and in the design of ultrasound probes and associated components for specialty surgical applications. Additionally, engineering support may be required at times in support of manufacturing where such efforts may be needed to improve product yield, throughput, or general ease of assembly.

Engineers are expected to be aware of and follow FDA and ISO requirements related to Design Controls, Product Qualification, and other procedures and practices typical within an FDA registered facility and ISO13485 environment.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a small company environment and be energized by the ability to ‘wear many hats’ as the situation requires and pitch in with a small team to deliver whatever the business needs. The candidate should have at least 2 years of direct experience in the design of medical devices and/or in a process engineering role related to the manufacture of medical devices within an ISO13485 environment. Candidates should have at least moderate proficiency with Solidworks or similar CAD software and a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field of study.

Additional skills or abilities which may be useful in this role:

  • Project Management Training – scheduling, tracking, and management of external resources
  • Familiarity with assembly processes such as machining, bonding, casting, grinding, and dicing
  • Knowledge/experience in Design for Manufacturing/Design for Assembly (DFM/DFA)
  • Strong documentation skills: procedure and protocol writing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of basic statistical concepts, control charts, process stability/capability
