DESCRIPTION

  • Operation of diagnostic testing equipment in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Maintain diagnostic testing equipment according to departmental policy.
  • Use of microscope for diagnostic analysis.
  • Perform all laboratory testing according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Collection of blood samples through venipuncture, finger stick and heel stick.
  • Crossmatch blood products for transfusion.
  • Received orders and report results correctly.
  • Perform manual diagnostic testing procedures.
  • Maintain quality control data.
  • Use personal protective equipment as required by procedure.
  • Adhere to chemical hygiene plan.
  • Attend and participate in in-service education programs, on-the-job training , workshops, etc.
  • Prepare samples for reference laboratory.
  • Receive specimens.
  • Instruct nursing personnel in patient preparation and specimen collection.
  • Demonstrate understanding of facility, Mission Vision, and key values as measured by performance and loyalty to the same.
  • Monitor supply inventory.
  • The facility provides and employee participates in education and training to improve their knowledge and skills related to the patient population served and the type and nature of care provided by their respective department.
  • Employee demonstrates knowledge and responsibility for the effective and safe use of all equipment in his/her activities.
  • Take orders from physician.
  • Any other duties and activities as required.
  • Complies with Universal Precautions and utilizes Personal protective equipment and devices, as required
  • Actively participates in own self-development by attending in-service programs and staff meeting.
  • Maintains attendance and punctuality.
  • Utilizes appropriate channels of communications to report personnel problems.
  • Appearance conforms to position held.
  • Provides direction and leadership to others by sharing knowledge.
  • Follows instructions- able to receive and carry out instructions. Asks appropriate questions.

Job Objectives:

The primary purpose of your position is for specimen collection and processing, test performance and reporting results and to function efficiently with minimum supervision in all phases of the laboratory in compliance with JCAHO, Federal, State of Georgia, local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern our facility and as may be directed by the Chief Executive Officer to ensure that the hightest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.


Education/ Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Associate Degree in Biological, Chemical or Physical Science, or Medical Laboratory Science, or on-the-job

Training with a grandfather approval by the Georgia Department of Human Resources. 

  • Must possess a valid and current MLT certification.
  1. Current CPR certification

Experience:

Prior experience as a medical laboratory technician preferred but not required.

Physical Demands:

Employee is required to both sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.  Will be required to lift up to 50 lbs.  Bending and stoopin, are  frequently done in a workday.  The ability to think and work under stress, to tolerate being subjected to frequent interruptions, and be will willing to work beyond normal working hours as necessary.  Requires communication ability (speak, read, comprehend, and write)


Working Environment:

Works in a climate controlled environment.


Equipment:

Ability to use Chemistry Analyzers, Cell Counter, Cell Washer, Microscopes, Centrifuge, Office Equipment,

Computers, Needles, Syringes, Lancets, Pipets and other miscellaneous laboratory equipment. 


Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
