R&D / PI Food Scientist

A. PURPOSE
In this position the R&D/ PI Food Scientist will oversee the commercialization of new and renovated products at the facility. The candidate will lead the transition of products developed on bench to commercial production and lead the development and formalization of processing procedures so that products can be manufactured efficiently and consistently. The position also requires identification of product and process improvements, cost savings opportunities and supporting operations with continuous improvement.
B. DUTIES
1. Supervises all R&D projects at the facility.
2. Leads the commercialization of new or renovated products.
3. Leads the transfer of products from other locations.
4. Reviews product ingredients, formulations and processes; provides suggestions for new products or improvements to existing products.
5. Communicates with corporate RD, Marketing, QA, routinely.
6. Performs analysis of our products to confirm manufacturing is within specifications
7. Leads cuttings in the lab to evaluate new and improved products against competition
8. Assists with product costing and defining process capabilities.
9. Compiling, checking and approving product specifications and labelling
10. Seeks new product and packaging ideas and technologies
11. Undertakes long-term projects with other departments, e.g., reducing yield lost and different phases of the process.
12. Works closely with operations and QA to identifying opportunities to improve our products and processes
Specific Skills and Abilities Required
1. Must have excellent food technology skills
2. Ability to work under tight deadlines and multitask.
3. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
4. Proficient computer skills with Microsoft (Excel and Word).
5. Self-directed and self-motivated
6. Detail oriented with precise analytical skill
C. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
1. Bachelor’s degree in Food Science required, a B.S. degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics will be considered.
2. Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience in food manufacturing. Preferred experience with Mexican food formulation and manufacturing.
