Kitchen Production Assistant and Chef Trainer

Job Description Summary

This full-time position is part of a team that produces meals daily and provides training in culinary arts in meal preparation and production to students. This position assists in the production and packaging of prepared meals and program meals.  Coordinates menus and production with the lead production chef.

This position is grant funded and will be reviewed on a year-to-year basis.

Essential Job Functions

• Follow plan for production and execution of meal preparation, cooking, and packaging of meals.
• Ensure proper storage, preparation, and packaging of meals.
• Ensure preparation of meals is completed according to the timeline set by supervisor.
• Execute daily menu and assures proper utilization and availability of food stores. Supervise and assist and maintain cleaning of station and entire kitchen.
• Instructs students on culinary techniques and manages instructional time to ensure curriculum is followed and completed by end of ten-week session. Conducts weekly quiz to ensure knowledge transfer.
• Supervises students in proper techniques and procedures for kitchen sanitation and safety.
• Interact with staff and students in a professional and positive manner that aligns with the core values of the organization.
• Utilize and maintain equipment, report any issues to supervisor.
• Assist in ordering and receiving products with direction from supervisor.
• Ensure kitchen areas are safe, clean and maintained for use.
• Assist in other kitchen jobs as needed as directed by supervisor.
• Interact with staff and students in a professional and positive manner that aligns with the core values of the organization.
• Communicate effectively with supervisor and teammates.

Qualifications:

• Skills and abilities to prepare, package, and store meals.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Good time management skills.
• Ability to take direction and execute tasks.

Education:

• Training in culinary skills, kitchen management, food preparation.

Experience:

• Proven work experience in a kitchen or restaurant setting.
• Experience in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience working with a team.
