The primary responsibility of the Vice President of Environmental Trenching is to drive profitable revenue growth of the category. This position will assist with overall revenue generation through the pursuit of larger, national projects that fall within the team’s total dewatering service offerings, as well as oversee the operational execution of both national trenching projects and larger branch projects as required. Lastly this position will be responsible for ensuring that Safety is a top priority in all instances to protect noy only the wellbeing of our employees, but also the financial stability of Mersino. Throughout all, the Vice President of Environmental Trenching will serve as a working team member and individual contributor to the overall team’s success.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in concert with the Sales Teams at large to implement a business development plan with strong sales strategies specifically targeted towards dewatering.
  • Partner with the VP Sales & Marketing to identify target markets and new customer bases aimed at strategic growth; carry out activities to pursue those target markets.
  • Ensure effective recruiting, on-boarding, professional development, and performance management activities are completed with all Environmental Trenching staff members in aims of developing and retaining top talent.
  • Define, manage and coordinate sales training programs related to Environmental Trenching that enable sales staff to achieve their potential and that will support company sales objectives; teach Branches how to fish.
  • Monitor customer, market and competitor activities, providing feedback to senior leadership and any other relevant departments.
  • Develop relationships and manage key customers and partners, driving the closure of strategic opportunities.
  • Organize, analyze and create reports as needed for category P&L results and analysis, operations, and sales & marketing activity.

Operations:

  • Directly oversee the operational activities of the Environmental Trenching team, and large Branch Projects as required, to ensure profitable execution and operational excellence of those projects.
  • Ensure the proper building and execution of Environmental Trenching projects, both at the national and branch levels, in accordance with project specs to ensure supreme customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure that any change to the scope of work on projects is being appropriately documented, and the appropriate processes are followed such as securing a change order or pursuing a differing site condition claim.
  • Provide coaching and training on specialty equipment and services when needed to support projects and improve the capabilities of national and branch personnel.
  • Ensure all billing is completed timely and accurately.
  • Conduct regular job reviews in conjunction with the SSG Finance and Operations teams to ensure proper quoting, L/R management, billing, inventory management, collections procedures, and execution of MERINO’s 3 Golden Rules ultimately ensuring profitability of projects.
  • Ensure all lien and bond processes are being followed to ensure our ability to collect on invoiced billing.
  • Work with Branch Management as required to ensure that operational needs, such as equipment and staffing, are being appropriately planned, scheduled and forecasted, and that effective and timely communication is had between Sales and Logistics related to all operational needs.
  • Become a product expert and champion, serving as one of many go-to people for high-level technical challenges with respect to products or their applications.
  • Serve as a member of the product development team, driving the development of new products as well as the evolution of existing products.
  • Develop and implement policies, practices and procedures to enhance the efficiency and earnings of the operations.

Administration:

  • Act as the direct conduit between the Environmental Trenching team and the SSG group to ensure the appropriate support, training, and feedback is received from shared service teams such as Finance, HR, IT, Service, Logistics, Administration, etc.
  • Ensure that Safety is a top priority with all departments and with all locations, working with the Safety team to improve our safety culture and adjust practices and procedures when needed.
  • Develop Environmental Trenching plans, budgets and forecasts with stretch goals to ensure proper focus on dewatering growth as part of the normal business operations; utilize Plan-Do-Check-Act methodology to ensure strategies are executed and followed through.
  • Ensure that The Mersino Way is a guiding document in all daily activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent.
  • 10+ years in a sales/operations management position in the construction industry.
  • Proficient in PC software and applications, including the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and/or technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, cost estimating and bidding procedures. • Knowledge of contract document and specifications, including experience in contract negotiations.
  • Skills in workflow analysis and management.
  • Demonstrable competency in strategic planning and business development.
  • Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills.
  • Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving. Critical Attributes:
  • Must be a team player; puts the Mersino team ahead of self-interests.
  • Must utilize influence to accomplish goals as Branch personnel will not directly report to this position.
  • A professional demeanor.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; be able to work with personnel from Laborers and Operators all the way up to the C-suite.
  • The ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet job requirements.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% when demanded by job or training requirements.
  • Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.
