Job Title: Fleet Technician III
Harris County Emergency Services District No. 48 ("HCESD No. 48" or the "District") is seeking applicants for a Full-Time Fleet Technician III position.
HCESD No. 48 is a combination of Fire and Emergency Medical Services ("EMS") District, providing services to residents of HCESD No. 48 and Fort Bend County Emergency Services District No. 1. Our service area is twenty-nine (29) square miles located on the west side of Harris County, between the cities of Houston and Katy, Texas. The population is approximately 150,000 persons. HCESD No. 48 responded to over fifteen thousand (15,000) Fire and EMS incidents in 2023.
The Fleet Technician III is an At-Will employee and serves at the discretion of the Fire Chief and the HCESD No. 48 Board of Commissioners.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Perform preventive maintenance to the District's fleet vehicles either by direct or indirect oversight from a supervisor. Preventive maintenance shall be limited to scope of qualification and includes advanced skill level tasks. Responsibilities include inspections, preventive maintenance, operational checks, diagnosis, repair and performance testing.
- Perform advanced-level preventive maintenance tasks of vehicles utilizing industry standards as required by NFPA, OEM, or part manufacturer.
- Assist Fleet Technician I/II with inspection, maintenance, and operational checks of fleet vehicles.
- Assist Fleet Technician I/II with inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosing and/or identifying and correcting mechanical defects of small engine equipment located on apparatus and in the stations.
- Ensure all vehicles meet the requirements of the Texas Transportation Code, the National Fire Protection Association ("NFPA") and the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards ("FMVSS") during inspection and maintenance.
- Complete all required preventative maintenance forms to document maintenance or repair activities, including required parts usage and labor details.
- Identifies the need for training to perform required maintenance. Monitors opportunities for outside training. Current Fleet Technician level and any applicable previously required Fleet Technician level training requirements shall be completed within a practical timeline as approved by the Fleet Management Supervisor. Training requirements by Fleet Technician level are specified in the Professional Development Guide matrix.
- Initiate and/or participate in daily shop duties such as housekeeping and parts inventory.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Fleet Management Supervisor or Assistant Fleet Management Supervisor.
