Job Description:

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about immigration law and federal criminal defense, with exceptional organizational abilities and a strong attention to detail. They must thrive in a fast-paced environment and be capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously. As a vital member of our team, the Legal Assistant/Paralegal will work closely with our attorney and clients to ensure efficient case management and the delivery of superior legal service.

Responsibilities:

1. Conduct thorough research on immigration law and federal criminal defense matters, including statutes, regulations, case law, and procedural rules.
2. Assist attorneys in drafting legal documents, such as pleadings, motions, briefs, petitions, and affidavits.
3. Prepare and file various immigration applications, including but not limited to visa petitions, adjustment of status applications, asylum applications, naturalization petitions, and prepare trial notebooks for immigration court and federal court.
4. Manage case files and maintain organized electronic and physical filing systems.
5. Communicate effectively with clients, government agencies, courts, and opposing counsel.
6. Coordinate client meetings, hearings, and court appearances, and maintain attorney calendars.
7. Assist attorneys during client interviews, depositions, hearings, and trials.
8. Review and analyze evidence, documents, and discovery materials.
9. Conduct client intake interviews and gather relevant information for case assessment.
10. Perform administrative tasks, such as answering phone calls, responding to emails, and scheduling appointments.
11. Stay updated on changes in immigration law and federal criminal defense practices and procedures.
12. Collaborate with team members to ensure the timely and successful resolution of cases.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required; paralegal certification preferred but not required.
2. Minimum of [2] years of experience working as a legal assistant or paralegal in immigration law and/or federal criminal defense.
3. Strong knowledge of immigration law, criminal law, and legal procedures.
4. Proficiency in legal research, writing, and document drafting.
5. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
6. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
7. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management software.
9. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in handling sensitive information.
10. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload effectively.
11. Fluency in Spanish is REQUIRED.
