Position Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for managing, promoting and restoring patients' health by completing the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; and supervising assigned team members.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts an individualized patient assessment
  • Develops plan of care that is individualized for the patient reflecting collaboration with other members of the healthcare team
  • Performs appropriate treatments as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner
  • Delivers care with appropriate age and cultural competence to specific patient populations
  • Provides individualized patient/family education customized to the patient and his/her family
  • Documents patient assessment findings, physical/psychosocial responses to nursing intervention and progress towards problem resolution
  • Initiates emergency resuscitative measures according to adult resuscitation and advanced life support protocols
  • Maintains confidentiality in matters related to patient, family and facility staff
  • Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel during each shift
  • Maintains current competency in nursing specialty by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
  • Administer and document treatments
  • Dispense medications following policies and procedures and complete required documentation.
  • Maintain complete and accurate patient records
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment in compliance with healthcare procedures and regulations
  • Adheres to infection-control protocols
  • Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures
  • Monitor and coordinate maintenance of equipment operation and inventory
  • Check and maintain nursing supplies inventory
  • Educate and instruct patients and family members on discharge instructions and home care needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Associate, bachelor or master's degree from an accredited nursing program
  • Current RN licensure Mississippi Board of Nursing
  • Certifications as required, based on area of work, such as BLS, CPR and ACLS
  • relevant experience
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff
  • Basic computer skills
  • Professional, friendly attitude
  • Excellent bedside manner
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures
  • Working knowledge of healthcare laws and regulations
  • Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Responsible and compassionate

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices

 

Physical Requirements:

The RN must have the ability to move around freely, walk and stand for long periods of time; use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without getting tired; use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls; bend or twist their body; understand the speech of another person and speak clearly so listeners can understand; and see details of objects that are less than a few feet away and at a distance.
