Job description

Position Summary
Centurion Surgery Center is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Registered Nurse (BSN) to join our team as a Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) Nurse. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring patients are medically prepared for surgery by conducting comprehensive preoperative assessments, coordinating required testing and medical clearances, educating patients, and collaborating with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams.

The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and committed to delivering exceptional patient care while helping ensure safe, efficient surgical outcomes and reducing day-of-surgery delays or cancellations.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Perform comprehensive preoperative nursing assessments via telephone and/or in person.
  • Review patient medical histories, medications, allergies, surgical histories, and current health status.
  • Evaluate laboratory results, EKGs, imaging studies, and other required preoperative testing to ensure patients meet surgical readiness requirements.
  • Identify patients requiring additional medical clearance, diagnostic testing, or specialist consultation and coordinate appropriate follow-up.
  • Communicate abnormal findings or concerns to surgeons, anesthesia providers, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Educate patients regarding preoperative instructions, medication management, fasting (NPO) requirements, arrival times, and postoperative expectations.
  • Coordinate with physicians, anesthesia providers, scheduling staff, and other departments to ensure all required documentation and clearances are obtained prior to surgery.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Ensure compliance with Company policies, HIPAA, OSHA, infection prevention standards, and all applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives focused on enhancing patient safety, operational efficiency, and the overall surgical experience.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license. BSN required.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency using electronic medical records (EMR).

Preferred:
  • Previous experience in Pre-Admission Testing, Ambulatory Surgery, Pre-Op, PACU, ICU, Emergency Department, or perioperative nursing.
  • ACLS certification.
  • Experience coordinating medical clearances and preoperative testing.
