Purpose of Role:

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Technical Services, the Mine Planning Engineer will assist with mine planning and technical support operations. The position will also oversee Short-Term Mining designs and plans and other earthworks related to the operation.

Role Accountabilities:

May carry out a wide range of professional activities using general or specialized professional knowledge/skills, including, but not limited to:

  • Participates in engineering feasibility studies to define proper mining methods, equipment selection, mine-site facilities, capital and operating costs, and manpower and production requirements.
  • Develops practical mine plans based on all available geological information to support intermediate—and long-range planning and production goals.
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of long and short-term mine plans, mine plan designs, and geological services in accordance with overall company objectives.
  • Assures maximum productivity and ore extraction rates by utilizing the latest and most advanced mining methods, procedures, and equipment.
  • Determines scheduling, manpower, capital, and equipment requirements to meet objectives in collaboration with the mine engineering manager.
  • Responsible for developing budgets for areas under supervision and ensuring budgets are adhered to.
  • May oversee large capital projects and direct outside consultants/contractors.
  • Recommends courses of action to eliminate potential production problems, improve operational efficiency, and control production costs.
  • Prepares detailed ore reserve estimates defining recoverable ore, overburden quantities, and stripping ratios.
  • Works with geologists in exploration and assists in the engineering phase of development and operational activities.
  • GPS field survey experience.
  • Familiarity with mine permitting.
  • Supervision of the Survey team.

Minimum Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering.
  • 2 to 3 years of mine engineering experience.
  • Exposure to mine planning software (MinePlan -advanced level)
  • Advanced level of Microsoft Excel and MS Office.
  • Ability to work effectively, with limited supervision, with a diverse group of professionals in a collaborative working environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to confidently and communicate effectively at all levels within the company.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Background in open-pit and mine planning.
  • Knowledge of budget and cost management.

The work environment will necessitate work near moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions such as hot and/or dry conditions. Work will be conducted in locations where noise, fumes, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration may exist.

Employee will be expected to drive a company vehicle, rental vehicle and/or his/her own vehicle in the course of performing the job, Employee must be able to perform the physical functions of operating a motor vehicle, including use of eyes, ears, arms, hands, legs, and feet. Employee must be able to prove that he/she has a current and valid driver's license.
