Job Description
Primary Function: Lead the Plant in an environment where people are involved, empowered, and motivated to accomplish continued improvement through customer focus.  This environment should allow employees to understand customer needs and plant goals while accomplishing both in a safe manner.

Direction Exercised: Department Managers & Staff Personnel

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  • Direct and coordinate daily operations of the manufacturing plant.
  • Assist in the development of processes to increase productivity and enhance performance.
  • Monitor operations and trigger corrective actions to meet or exceed goals and objectives.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively to give detailed and specific instructions to managers and supervisors.
  • Communication Skills - Must practice active listening and be able to read non-verbal cues, such as facial expressions and body language, to understand how a message is being received.
  • Time-management Skills - including the ability to set goals, prioritize tasks and create schedules.
  • Decision-making Skills – the ability to make determinations about plant goals, resources and hiring needs; be organized to maintain records and create an environment that facilitates workflow.
  • Leadership Skills - Motivating employees, building employee self-esteem and confidence and creating a positive work environment is necessary to be successful.
  • Group Communication Skills - such as giving presentations or public speaking, directing and participating in meetings.
  • Determine plant performance measurements in conjunction with Senior Leadership of BGF
                a. On-time Delivery
                b. Percent of off-standard rolls
                c. Costs of quality
                d. Cycle time reduction
e. Involve employees in the decision-making progress as necessary; foster empowerment and involvement; create ownership of departments and jobs.
  • Employee Safety - Actively support current safety systems - JSA, HC, PPE, investigation of medical or near miss accidents.  Employee training and involvement in the safety program.
  • Quality - Facilitate environment to reduce off-quality.  Reduce short roll generation through engineering and defect reduction.  Establish P.M.  Programs on all production equipment.  Facilitate continuous improvement in each department.  Provide training to all managers and employees as needed. Aid QC to identify, measure, and control process variables key to producing quality products. 
  • Productivity – Measure key parameters to maximize production. Identify and eliminate production bottlenecks (Process Mapping and Lot Tracking).  Be willing to try new ideas to improve products/processes.
  • Cost - Lead/support managers to attain budgeted cost objectives in all areas of the plant.  Develop waste reduction programs (yarn and fabric).  Develop support energy conservation to reduce waste in air/electrical/water and steam usage.
  • Other - Promote Company’s image in community.  Improve customer relations.  Improve communication/relationships between plant and other areas (Sales, Technical, R & D, and Planning).  Active personal development.
  • All other tasks assigned by Direct Manager

Physical Requirements:
(x) Standing                        May be up to 10 hours per day on wood or concrete floor

(x) Sitting                             As require to perform tasks; frequency up to 50 times/shift or all day as necessary

(x) Moving                           Throughout Department and other departments to collaborate on issues; up to 30 times/shift – as far as 1200 feet in one direction

(x) Climbing                        As required to go from one level to another; up to 50 times/shift, using stairs, step stool & ladders as necessary

(x) Lifting                             As required to assist others; Anything over 50 pounds requires assistance; frequency may be 500 times/shift for filing and manual tasks

(x) Push/Pull                      May be 500 times/shift; Files, drawers, etc. & assist others

(x) Reaching                       Reach through three body zones and around body; Frequency may be 200 times/shift; weighing up to 20 pounds

(x) Visual Acuity                Prepare data and enter into PC; Depending on job may be required to detect color; minimum of 20/40 corrected eyesight

(x) Bending/Stooping     Depending on assignment may be up to 100 times/shift

(x) Hearing                          Adequate to communicate over telephone and in person

(x) Other                              May be required to operate a motor vehicle self-sufficiently to travel as necessary

Environmental/Safety Risk Requirements:
Exposure to Fiberglass, fly, dust, finishing fumes or other chemicals.  Must be able to wear Personal Protective
Equipment as required by job/task; Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses and Hearing Protection which is not an inclusive list.

Prerequisites: 
  • Bachelor's degree in Textiles, Engineering or Business with a minimum of five years of Plant Management experience as a Plant Manager in a manufacturing plant – [Highly Preferred]
  • Or 10 years direct Plant Leadership experience in a manufacturing setting

Assessments:  Medical – Vision corrected to 20/20, drug screen and Hearing to normal speech

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations MRP system.
