Job Title: Director of Culinary

Location: Meadowview of Clive, Independent and Assisted Living Facility

Job Description: The Director of Culinary at Meadowview of Clive plays a pivotal role in creating an exceptional dining experience for our residents. As a member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of culinary operations, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Menu Development: Design and execute seasonal menus that cater to the dietary needs and preferences of our diverse resident population, ensuring variety, nutritional balance, and culinary excellence.
  2. Kitchen Management: Supervise kitchen staff, including chefs, cooks, and kitchen assistants, to maintain a smooth and efficient operation. Delegate tasks, set performance expectations, and provide training and development opportunities as needed.
  3. Food Preparation: Ensure all meals are prepared according to established recipes, portion sizes, and food safety standards. Monitor food quality and presentation to meet or exceed expectations.
  4. Inventory Control: Manage food inventory levels, ordering supplies as needed to maintain freshness and minimize waste. Implement cost-saving measures without compromising quality.
  5. Regulatory Compliance: Maintain compliance with all relevant health, safety, and sanitation regulations, including but not limited to FDA guidelines, HACCP standards, and local health codes.
  6. Customer Satisfaction: Foster a welcoming and inclusive dining atmosphere where residents feel valued and respected. Solicit feedback, address concerns promptly, and strive for continuous improvement.
  7. Budget Management: Develop and adhere to departmental budgets, tracking expenses and identifying areas for cost containment or revenue generation.
  8. Staff Development: Recruit, train, and retain talented culinary professionals, promoting a culture of teamwork, accountability, and professional growth. Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and support as needed.
  9. Event Planning: Coordinate special events, holiday meals, and themed dining experiences to enhance resident engagement and satisfaction.
  10. Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including activities, marketing, and facilities, to ensure seamless coordination and integration of culinary services into the overall resident experience.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in culinary management, with strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Thorough understanding of food safety regulations and best practices. ServSafe certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Proficiency in inventory management software. Experience with cost control and budgeting.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations. Experience with health department inspections.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Customer service-oriented mindset.
  • Financial acumen with experience in budget development and management.
  • Experience in recruiting, training, and developing culinary staff. Strong mentoring and coaching abilities.
  • Experience in event planning and execution. Creative thinking and attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Strong organizational and project management skills.
