Description

Our hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to help provide outstanding patient care and client service in a fast-paced, multi-doctor animal hospital.

The Veterinary Assistant is responsible for assisting Veterinarians in the care of animals. The Assistant helps during initial examinations by restraining animals when necessary, stocking examination and surgery rooms with supplies, sterilizing tools and ensuring that equipment is in working order. Veterinary Assistants also communicate with clients (pet owners) and update patient files.

Skills, Knowledge, & Expertise

Minimum of 1 year of experience (required)
Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
Expert animal handling skills
Excellent communication skills
Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks depending on needs
Good organizational skills
Technical know-how in areas such as disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment
Computer skills to maintain medical records about animals in veterinary software
Familiarity of running In House cytologies (preferred, but not required)
Familiarity of monitoring anesthesia (preferred but not required)
Profound in taking Radiographs
Comfortability in running rooms/ taking on appointments
Confident in SOAP notes
Ability to draw blood
Placing IV Catheters (preferred, but not required)
Properly restraining animals
Ability to practice Fear Free restraining (if applicable)
Familiarity of Hospitalization for patients
