The San Diego Symphony is making big moves and we are looking for a designer who is ready to help guide, develop and oversee the brands of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra Association, which includes the San Diego Symphony and its two venues, The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park and Jacobs Music Center.

We have a fast-paced environment where you'll juggle multiple tasks, so you'll need to be able to hit the ground running while developing design concepts that fit seamlessly into our unique brand standards and objectives. A successful Designer here is proactive, analytical, detail-oriented, teachable, humble, and an all around team player. You understand what makes people tick, and know how to translate that into designs that get results.

Summary:

The Graphic Designer is responsible for the visual style, design, creation and production of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra Association's collateral materials presented across a variety of mediums. These materials should communicate and reinforce the brand, quality, accessibility, clear message and standards of the Association's Institutional image. The Graphic Designer will assist in the development of institutional campaign objectives, implement institutional objectives in all materials, and build and maintain the corporate brand and messages in all communications. The Graphic Designer will also hire, manage and oversee an assistant graphic designer, to aid with the production of assets and general design.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and design print and digital materials for the San Diego Symphony, which include comprehensive marketing and fundraising campaigns, direct mail, brochures, websites, venue signage, advertisements and other collateral, and provide design assets for newsletters, program books, presentations, reports, and product development
  • Oversee the concept, design, and production of all San Diego Symphony Orchestra Association visual identifiers including publications, advertising, digital and social graphics
  • Participate in conceptual design and communications meetings across departments
  • Coordinate and produce communications for all San Diego Symphony print and web advertising
  • Serve in a key role of brand governance through visual and corporate identity (print/web/broadcast/other).
  • Steward projects throughout design/review process, and successful production/delivery
  • Develop relationships with vendors such as printers and paper companies, and securing aggressive bids and cost-effective printing solutions
  • Manage and update department's archival portfolio
  • Resize artwork and photography for print, web, and e-mail projects

Requirements

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design is required (equivalent experience will be considered)
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in production of printed materials and digital advertising
  • Knowledge of classical music helpful, but not required


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent desktop/web publishing skills using Adobe CS: Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Microsoft Word and all support utilities and software
  • Proficient with Macintosh operating system including troubleshooting and network operations
  • Proficiency in motion design (After Effects)
  • Basic Knowledge of HTML / CSS
  • Excellent concept, design, organization and editorial skills
  • Creative graphic designer evidenced by a diverse portfolio
  • Strategic thinker and communicator with the ability to develop and execute projects from concept through production
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with tight timelines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of writing, editing and proofreading process
  • Team player with the ability both to lead and to follow


Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

Routine for office environment. Some evenings and/or weekends for concerts and events are required.

Benefits

This is a full-time position with benefits, based at the San Diego Symphony. Some evening and weekend work is required. Due to the current renovations at Copley Symphony Hall, administrative staff are temporarily working a hybrid schedule of onsite and remote work.

Pay: $30.00/hour - $38.00/hour DOE
