Summary

The Sports & Recreation Manager is responsible for management and implementation of adult sports programming, leagues, special events, and assist with day camp sports programing. This position will also directly oversee the registrations for programs at The J. This position implements and oversees programs at both J locations (Staenberg Family Complex - Creve Coeur and Marilyn Fox Building - Chesterfield). Position reports directly to the Director of Sports, Recreation & Day Camps to ensure the upkeep and quality of the sports and recreation programs. Main office will be located at the Staenberg Family Complex - Creve Coeur but may work at the Marilyn Fox Building - Chesterfield as needed with approval or direction of the Director.

Sports Responsibilities
  • Directly responsible for the success of all adult sport programing at both campuses (SFC & Fox).
  • Assist Sports and Recreation Manager (Youth Sports) with youth basketball programing.
  • Assist with development of sports camps.
  • Plans, develops, and supervises a variety of recreational activities and programs in their specific area.
  • Hire, train, supervise, mentor, and evaluate part-time personnel to carry out assigned programs and activities.
  • Ensure all employees are current on required certifications and safety training. Set clear expectations for each member of the team, hold accountable, provide guidance and feedback on a regular basis.
  • Greets visitors and answers telephone; provides information and assistance.
  • Maintain customer satisfaction and confidence by providing outstanding customer service.
  • Responds to and resolves customer complaints and concerns.
  • Researches, gathers data, and prepares reports.
  • Enters and maintains program participant data and files.
  • Supervises the operations of the recreation complex when assigned. Act as supervisor on duty for league games.
  • Perform work on weekends and evenings as needed to meet applicable deadlines or scheduling needs.
  • Serves as liaison to community organizations, schools, and external service providers.
  • Orders and purchases supplies and equipment for specific programs.
  • Assists in the development and administration of assigned budgets.
  • Develop bids for all program related items, assist in bid development for all capital equipment as needed.
  • Serve in a leadership position with Day Camps.
  • Teach, coach, work with and supervise children of all abilities and needs.
  • Collaborate with the other J staff to create programmatic marketing plans which include program descriptions, website content, communication strategies/channels, and development and distribution of collateral materials.
  • Assist in formulation of policies, guidelines, evaluation processes, goals, and objectives for programs and other areas as assigned.
  • Adhere to all J and departmental policies.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Stay up to date on trends in the field relating to assigned program areas.
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor.


Registrar Responsibilities
  • Process program registrations in Salesforce (incoming from mail, phone, in-person).
  • Proactively handle communications regarding payment to ensure that all payments are received prior to program participation. Actively coordinate with customers, program staff, accounting staff, and collections/scholarship coordinator.
  • Learn about and maintain current knowledge about JCC programming to answer customer questions and or to connect customers to the appropriate agency contact.
  • Work closely with other JCC departments.
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor.


Requirements

Qualifications
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of a bachelor's degree in a related field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one to three years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain certification in CPR.
  • Must have proven skill in the use of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and must have proven ability to learn new software programs as industry specific software will be used as part of this position.
  • Must demonstrate successful organizational and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple, simultaneous tasks, finish projects on time, while maintaining budgets parameters.
  • Ability to adapt in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to remain calm and respond confidently and promptly to stressful situations.
  • Must have ability to relate in a positive manner with members and fellow staff while always providing exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings to ensure program success is being met.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be physically capable of performing manual labor, work both indoors and outdoors, and can lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Bend at the wait, kneel, crouch, or reach above the head to store, or retrieve materials.
