Position Details/Duties:
- Implement and maintain cost accounting systems and processes tailored to the healthcare industry's unique requirements.
- Analyze and report on costs including, but not limited to, patient care, supplies, equipment, and labor, identifying trends and areas for financial optimization.
- Work closely with various department leaders to collect and analyze data related to operations and patient care services, ensuring accurate cost allocation.
- Prepare detailed cost analyses and reports to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
- Assist in the budgeting and forecasting process, providing insightful data to aid in financial planning and decision-making.
- Collaborate with the finance team to prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, highlighting cost trends and efficiencies.
- Evaluate (provider/vendor/payer) contracts and agreements from a cost perspective, advising on financial implications and optimization strategies.
- Participate in continuous education to remain knowledgeable about healthcare accounting standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare financial regulations and standards, participating in audits and preparing necessary documentation.
Position Requirements:
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, cost accounting methods, and financial reporting as they relate to healthcare.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with a detail-oriented approach.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with all levels of management.
- Demonstrated integrity and professionalism in handling sensitive financial information.
- Proactive and independent with a strong sense of accountability and a focus on delivering results.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations, reimbursement models, and compliance requirements.
Experience:
- At least 2-3 years of cost accounting experience, with a preference for candidates with healthcare industry experience.
- Proficiency in financial management systems common in healthcare (e.g., Epic, Cerner) and MS Excel.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
Physical:
- This position is classified as Light Work in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (66% of the time) to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are more than those for Sedentary Work.
