ABOUT AJ Operations
An extension of AJ Capital Partners ("AJCP") founded in 2008, Adventurous Journeys Operations ("AJ Operations") is the in-house management company for AJCP's hospitality, office, residential, entertainment, and retail assets. By leveraging resources across the company, AJ Operations expands upon AJCP's vertically integrated development approach and is responsible for driving operating performance and guest experience through the alignment of branding, real estate, and property operations. Projects managed by AJ Operations include Chief's, an entertainment venue in partnership with Eric Church on Broadway in Nashville, Memoir Residential, a multifamily platform initially launching in Nashville, Portland, and New Orleans, and Hotel 1928 in Waco, TX in partnership with Magnolia by Chip and Joanna Gaines, as well as many other exciting commercial, retail, hospitality, and F&B ventures. AJ Operations will also manage 500,000 square feet of office space and 250,000 square feet of retail upon completion of AJCP's mixed-use project in Wedgewood-Houston Nashville.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Accountant is responsible for the general accounting operations for multiple properties, including the day-to-day accounting, reconciling account balances, maintaining the general ledger, preparing month-end close, and overall financial reporting. They will directly assist the Director of Accounting with other financial activities and provide guidance in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) & Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI).
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Manage the day-to-day finance operations for the assigned AJMC properties
• Assist with account collections and accounts receivable aging
• Manage the month-end close process for assigned properties, including presentation of the financial statements
• Verify and record accurate sales and settlement figures for live shows, events, food and beverage, and hotel activity
• Handle vendor inquiries, reconcile vendor statements, and manage vendor relationships to ensure accurate financials
• Review and understand significant agreements, including but not limited to entity operational agreements, debt agreements, development management, asset management, hotel management, event agreements and restaurant management agreements, and applicable leases and insurance contracts; prepare workpapers to assist in the continuous compliance and reporting for each of these agreements across your assigned properties
• Prepare workpapers and supporting documentation for the annual audit and tax reporting process with the audit and tax providers
• Maintain confidentiality of client information
• Document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
• Perform any additional responsibilities that may be required to support AJMC's rapid growth
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
Required
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
• Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a related position in the hospitality industry, specifically with hotel accounting experience
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to work with cross-functional teams, negotiate for resources and influence stakeholders, and gain acceptance of and commitment to plans, ideas, initiatives, etc.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to prepare and deliver reports, presentations, and facilitate meetings
• Strong experience creating and working with Excel spreadsheets
• Highest levels of integrity and transparency
Preferred
• Experience with Sage Intacct or similar accounting system, data warehouse, ERP, etc.
• Experience working in Infor, Tripleseat, Toast, Resy, TixR, Fintech, and/or Shopify applications
• Proven leadership skills in Hotel, F&B, or live events/entertainment environment
• Multi-outlet or multi-property hospitality experience
• CPA license
