Position Overview

The Economic Empowerment Specialist is responsible for overseeing job placement services for clients and ensuring smooth and seamless implementation of services and consistent, effective communication with relevant team members regarding program coordination. 

 

Reporting Relationship

The Economic Empowerment Specialist reports directly to the Adult Program Manager.


Work Schedule

The regular schedule is 9:00a-5:00p two days each week, 12:00p-8:00p two days each week, and 9:00a-3:00p on Fridays. 


Job Responsibilities

  • Work with the Chief Programs Officer and EE Program Manager to create, implement and maintain policies and procedures for the job placement services program.
  • Compile and maintain tracking data for all participants.
  • Serve as point of contact for members seeking opportunities through the Second Chance jobs program.
  • Research and pursue opportunities to engage with community partners who offer services assisting individuals with economic empowerment (i.e., computer classes, vocational training, financial assistance, loan programs, etc.) and continually strive to make connections and build relationships in individual and group meetings that will help clients access services more effectively through referrals.
  • Provide career coaching services to members including resume building, job readiness and career development classes, interview preparation, application completion, and other employment guidance.
  • Train members on basic computer literacy, when needed.
  • Provide financial coaching on financial planning and personal budgeting, savings, debt, credit, assets, tax filing, etc. while adhering to established program structure and guidelines for tracking and recording their success
  • Coordinate volunteer activities including interviewing potential volunteers in person for the program to see if they are a good fit for indirect/direct involvement; and assigning professional mentors to members based on volunteer’s experience, qualifications, and passion for furthering the mission of the agency.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

 

Required Job Qualifications, Education and Skills

  • Bachelors degree in social work, business, or related field (social work degree a big plus)
  • Proven experience working with high risk populations
  • Knowledge of career development, resume writing, interviewing skills, and related tasks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience coordinating logistical, planning and scheduling details
  • Strong ability to work internally across departments in a successful manner
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time with strong follow-through
