Job Title: Inpatient Facility Medical Coder (40h Day)
Location: Remote (Candidates must reside in Washington or Oregon)
Employment Type: Permanent
Salary: USD $27.26 $39.37 / hr

Job Description:
Candidates must reside either in Washington or Oregon to be considered for this position.

The Inpatient Facility Medical Coder independently and efficiently assigns accurate diagnosis and procedure codes to patients' health information records across various facility settings. This role ensures adherence to coding guidelines and regulations established by CMS, NCHS, AMA, NCCI, OMAP, and Client. Additionally, the role involves communicating with physicians for clarification, abstracting clinical data, and maintaining high standards of productivity and quality.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Proficiently review medical records and translate clinical information into coded data.
  • Assign appropriate codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services rendered, validating Computer Assisted Coded (CAC) assignments for dual coding.
  • Utilize coding software systems for professional surgical services, maintaining accuracy and validity.
  • Abstract clinical data elements and enter them into electronic patient data systems.
  • Assign principal diagnosis and procedure codes, sequencing them as needed for proper APC, MS-DRG, and APR-DRG assignment.
  • Conduct chart analysis to identify incomplete, inaccurate, or inconsistent documentation and ensure compliance with coding rules and guidelines.
  • Maintain productivity and quality standards, meeting departmental expectations.
  • Utilize resources such as Coding Clinic and CPT Assistant for research and stay updated on coding and regulatory changes.
  • Participate in organizational procedures and coding education sessions.

Qualifications:

Non-negotiable Requirements:

  1. Minimum five (5) years of coding experience with four (4) years in inpatient facility coding.
  2. Possess one of the following certifications: RHIA, RHIT, CCS.
  3. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacology, and coding principles.
  4. Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS/CPT coding systems and disease processes.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Ability to evaluate and analyze mathematical statistics and percentages related to productivity and medical record audits.
