ICMA is currently seeking an Accountant Assistant who will be responsible for performing daily accounting tasks and other clerical duties, including data entry, processing invoices, tracking payments related to Accounts Payable functions, and providing administrative support to the Finance and Contracts Administration team.

The Accounting Assistant reports to the Senior Accountant - Accounts Payable.

What You'll Do:

  1. Supports daily duties related to accounts payable and monitors the Accounts Payable inbox for incoming internal and external stakeholders' requests and inquiries
  2. Enters vendor invoices and payment voucher requests into the financial system (Deltek CostPoint), and establishes wire transfer payment requests
  3. Performs payment-day processing duties, including voucher/wire entries, wire setup for payment, mailing checks and communicating payment transfers to the appropriate personnel/vendors
  4. Assists with performing account reconciliations as assigned to ensure transactions in accounts are recorded/removed and balanced
  5. Resolves discrepancies and follow up with vendors/suppliers in a timely manner with any concerns
  6. Assists with collection of W-9 and review of 1099 transaction data
  7. Maintains an organized Accounts Payable filing system
  8. Assists with month-end and year-end close activities
  9. Supports annual audit process
  10. Assists with additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned

What You Need To Be Successful In This Role:

  • Associates degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration or related field, or 1-3 years of related work experience in lieu of degree.
  • One (1-2) year of experience in accounting or finance

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Basic understanding of accounting concepts
  • Knowledge of accounts payable & invoice handling processes
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively as appropriate for the assignments
  • High attention to detail, ensures accuracy in completion of work with strong/independent follow-through
  • Ability to adapt quickly and learn/retain information related to various forms and procedures to ensure data consistency
  • A sense of urgency with an ability to multitask and ability to meet multiple deadlines
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrate a high standard of integrity and sound business ethics
  • Interpersonal skills to work with staff, ICMA vendors, and members with professionalism and consistent levels of customer service
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite

This position is based out of ICMA's headquarters, located in Washington, D.C. At this time, all ICMA staff are working remotely. The selected individual must be able to work the core business hours from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm EST. Our office will remain operational and accessible for staff to use on a voluntary basis.

A high-speed Internet connection is required. Personnel will provide the Internet service at their own expense. The internet connection must be of sufficient bandwidth to allow the team member to efficiently perform their regular job functions.
