Technical Lead, Construction Services

Job Summary
The Technical Lead is responsible for overseeing the technical operations within the construction materials laboratory, ensuring all testing and services meet industry standards and regulatory compliance. This role involves project management, technical guidance, and strategic oversight of construction services.
All of this takes place within the framework of achieving the company's goals and vision.
Essential Functions

- Lead and manage technical operations in the construction materials laboratory, ensuring compliance with ASTM, ACI, and other applicable standards.
- Oversee complex construction projects, providing technical expertise and ensuring quality control from inception to completion.
- Develop and implement management strategies for construction services, focusing on efficiency and technical excellence.
- Train and mentor technical staff, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Complete field work on large or complex projects.
- Perform tests and write reports for project work assigned.
- Maintain equipment calibration list and perform quality assurance standard operating procedures.
- Provide input on project proposals including quantity and scheduling.
- Perform surveillances for quality assurance purposes.
- Lead the development of new tests.
- Develop proficiency with various instrumentation methods.
- Provide technical expertise to clients and industry studies.
- Support QA/QC needs of the laboratory (e.g., equipment calibrations, maintenance schedule, etc.)
- Direct operations in the concrete laboratory
- Responsible for maintaining organization and cleanliness of laboratory.
- Maintain AET’s productivity standards.
- Must provide quality of service and work product that meets or exceeds AET’s expectations.
- Must maintain ACI and other relatable certifications.
Supervisory Responsibility
Provides work direction to technicians as coordinated with senior staff.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of five years of experience in assessment and testing of construction materials.
- Maintain valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Preferred Skills
- Communication skills sufficient to convey complex technical information in a clear manner to diverse audiences.
- Detailed knowledge of principles and practices in more than one specialty area (cross trained); or
- Demonstrated expert level knowledge of principles and practices within a specialty area.
- Demonstrated proficiency in developing timely, accurate, and detailed project documentation.
Work Environment
This job primarily operates in a professional laboratory environment. This position also may require occasional field work in outdoor conditions on construction sites with uneven ground and adverse weather conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50-100 pounds. The employee will occasionally push or pull equipment weighing up to 200 pounds. The employee is required to frequently work outside. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
