Starting Base Salary: $120k - 150K

Summary
The sawmill manager will be responsible for all sawmill and kiln operations, as well as overall operational and financial performance, and will report to the Chief Operating Officer. This facility converts logs into grade hardwood lumber in multiple shifts. In charge of overseeing and supervising all aspects of sawmill operations. The hiring of an experienced manager with a background in the hardwood lumber industry is required for this position.

Responsibilities
- Responsible for creating a schedule for the team to ensure adequate coverage of needs while making efficient use of time.
- Maintain strict adherence to the Company's program. Maintaining a clean and environmentally safe work environment through the use of 5S procedures.
- To maintain quality and production standards for sawmill operations, guide the continuous development and implementation of a best practices work system.
- Interacted with the log yard manager and the log procurement group. Determine, recommend, and implement changes to increase productivity and reduce costs.
- Control the lumber inspectors and other sawmill workers. Manage the activities of the Hardwood sawmill operations in order to meet the company's financial objectives.
- Compile logs and reports to track plant performance and devise methods to boost overall productivity. On a regular basis, effectively communicate results to senior management.
- Oversee the Hardwood sawmill operations, including mill employees, workplace efficiency, and product quality. Ensure lumber quality control and implement and manage safety policies.
- Check for flaws and malfunctions in operating safety devices after repairs, modifications, testing, and installation. Coordination with maintenance leaders is required to ensure that all machinery is properly maintained.

- Must be available and willing to work weekends and holidays as determined by the employer to be necessary or desirable in order to meet the employer's business needs.

- Maintain clear communication with all levels of management. Working knowledge of OSHA regulations as well as safe work practices
- Knowledge of sawmill machinery and maintenance. Understanding of Sawmill Optimization and Quality Control Standards
- Outstanding interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Capable of troubleshooting electrical components
- Highly adaptable, with strong interpersonal skills that enable one to work effectively in a diverse work environment
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Excellent critical thinking abilities for complex issues
- 4-year degree in forestry or a related field would be advantageous but not required.

- 3+ years of previous management and experience in a hardwood sawmill

- 7+ years knowledge of NHLA lumber grading rules is required.

- Proficient in MS Office and strong business acumen
