GENERAL SUMMARY
Provide a comfortable atmosphere while participating in pre-registration prior to a patient’s scheduled Cath Lab procedure, performing essential nursing skills and addressing patient’s needs. Acting as a patient advocate by providing patient teaching and follow up evaluation. Involvement in the Quality Improvement Process.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs pre-registration and day of procedure duties, which shall include but are not limited to, the following:
- Receivership & accurate processing of physician orders for Cath Lab procedures with compilation of lab work, H&P’s, ECG’s and other applicable documents as necessary
- Pre-procedure patient calls for arrival time, instructions and Q&A as applicable.
- Compilation of Patient Welcome folders containing procedure education, hospital information & directions for completion of Health History forms.
- Daily submission of next day Cath Lab schedule with arrival times for Admissions Department.
- Post procedure QI call 48-72 hours after discharge for Cath Lab outpatients and inpatients regarding patient’s assessment of his/her hospital care, stay, experience, etc. with documentation and appropriate reporting, respectively. Repeat evaluations 2-3 months after discharge regarding same.
- Compile and maintain statistical data to be utilized in the QI tracking process which will include:
- Time lines from admissions to patient care rooms.
- Time lines from patient care rooms to Cath Lab.
- Patient Flow Committee participation.
- Maintains effective and active communication with Short Stay and the Cath Lab board runner of pertinent patient data for same and next day procedures.
- Coordinates next day Cath Lab procedures with Surgery scheduling.
- Communicates with doctor’s offices for next day Cath Lab patient procedures and start times.
- Identifies and utilizes the opportunity for professional growth and employee development.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Demonstrates effective communication skills.
- Possess knowledge of the theories, techniques and practices of professional nursing.
- Know the definitions of fundamental computer terms related to applications software and desktop PC's
- Know how to open, read, and respond to email
- Know how to manage electronic files
- Know how to print electronic documents and reports
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- BCLS certification required.
LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION
- LVN preferred
ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Potential for contact with chemicals, blood borne pathogens, and exposure to infectious disease.
