Job Description

Purpose/Description of the Job:

The Senior Superintendent is responsible for leading the project team in successful execution of projects safely, within budget, on schedule and in accordance with RGC’s Best Practices. The Senior Superintendent assists the Vice President - Field Operations with continued training and development of the project staff with a focus on safety, quality control, forecasting and scheduling. This position will oversee all RGC site field staff and subcontractors to effectively conduct daily on-site activities in a highly collaborative manner and will interact with Owners, Architects and Engineers in a highly professional manner.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:

Best Practices & Relationships:

  • Work with the VP - Field Operations to make sure RGC’s existing systems and procedures are aligned; improve and implement new processes to help RGC grow and get better
  • Serve as an ambassador of RGC. Build and maintain pleasant and respectful relationships with Owners, Architects, Engineers, Subcontractors and Vendors and other RGC employees.
  • Actively recruit and hire (if applicable) people that will strive for exceptional results for RGC
  • Meet with Subcontractors to discuss challenges, progress and assist in finding the best processes to completing the work
  • Supervise and coordinate Subcontractors to monitor their compliance with subcontract terms and make sure all subcontracts are executed correctly before the Subcontractor begins work
  • Ensure that Subcontractors understand their requirements and perform their work according to the specifications of the Subcontract with assistance from Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent
  • Assist the verification of individual subcontractor scopes and the buyout of the project
  • Lead Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents and other field staff to execute their scope of work
    • Build relationships and communicate expectations and direction with schedules, best practices and construction methods
  • Understand and evaluate the project team’s construction methods, technique and phasing needed to build the project and identify a plan to develop and help resolve issues that arise during the construction
  • Participate in Owner, Architect and Contractor meetings as advisable
  • Close out each project in compliance with the contract documents and RGC best practices
  • Oversee the job site by walking the site, training and meeting with staff and subcontractors, participating in inspections

Schedule & Budget:

  • Develop and implement detailed schedules and production plans with budget and safety goals in mind.
  • Participate in the monitoring of the project schedule with the Project Executive and consistently monitor the overall progress of the project and job site
  • Monitor CPM schedule including material tracking and delivery, production analysis, and submittal status
  • Monitor and maintain labor budget and materials
  • Monthly labor projections to Project Manager
  • Assist in the development of revenue forecasts and staffing schedules

Daily Reports & Documentation Control:

  • Complete thorough Daily Logs every day in strict accordance with RGC best practices, attaching pictures and other necessary documentation, in Procore or, if a project is not in Procore, in the form acceptable to VP – Field Operations
    • Respond to inaccurate or negative comments of concerns noted in these reports
    • Assist with he creation, input, review and finalization of all daily reports in conjunction with project lead, if applicable
  • Maintain and update drawings in field office and in the field with ASI’s, RFI’s, etc.
  • Read and understand specifications
  • Review and understand drawings and details

Safety & Quality Assurance/Quality Control:

  • Manage the safety planning, documentation, and execution of the project. Assist the project and safety teams with enforcement on RGC, government, and project requirements
  • Provide site safety orientations in accordance with RGC safety practices. Organize and conduct monthly safety committee meetings for the RGC Team.
  • Plan and deliver weekly “Toolbox” safety meetings
  • Meet the Quality Assurance / Quality Control requirements of the project
  • Maintain a clean and orderly jobsite

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • 10+ years working as a Superintendent on construction projects
  • Extensive knowledge of safety, scheduling and cost control procedures
  • Knowledge of all crafts of construction related to carpentry, concrete, structural steel and interior build-outs
  • Proven written and verbal communication abilities
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Continually drives for results, strives for improvement, creates trust with character and action, teams up successfully, solves complex problems and builds other people.

Preferences:

  • OSHA 30
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Communication skills in Spanish

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • This position has supervisory responsibility of all members of the RGC Field Operations Team members on the project.
  • Ensure RGC policies and processes are followed in supervisory activities.
  • Work with each direct report to establish goals and development plans for each year; monitor and supervise the progress to enhance their professional development and contribution to RGC.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a construction job site setting and in an office setting.

Physical Demands:

  • Works significant portion of day outside on construction site
  • Able to walk or stand for long periods of time
  • Able to lift/move up to 70 lbs.
  • Able to deal with the physical activities associated with a construction site (stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist)
  • Able to navigate work areas under construction

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Standard day and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Evening and weekend hours are required as the job duties demand.

Travel:

Travel to other RGC job sites and to RGC offices is required.
