Job Summary

This position is with our Alyeska Division and the work is along the Trans-Alaska Pipeline (TAPS) for the Pipeline Integrity (PIT) Program. Project activities involve the internal and external inspection of above-ground facility piping including crude oil, fuel gas and utility piping. This project-based job is a rotational position which the specific work schedule will be determined at a later date.

 

Summary of Essential Job Functions

Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Work with the HSET Manager and Director to provide field HSE support on TAPS.  Assist in the creation or updating of HSE policies, programs, plans and schedules.  Conducts "needs analysis" studies and coordinates with managers and supervisors to determine training needs for onsite personnel. Must be willing and able to lead and educate employees in safe work ethics, practices, and behaviors.  Inspects facilities to detect existing or potential work site or environmental hazards. Determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented. Works with field location supervisors to ensure compliance with all regulatory, client and HCC policies and procedures.  The candidate must be skilled in the use of standard Industrial Hygiene instruments used to evaluate workplace hazards and the potential for personnel exposure and knowledgeable about the characteristics of common hazards in the oil and gas industry. Candidate must be able to use these instruments to evaluate the work site prior to the performance of hot work, unit work, and work in confined spaces.  Candidate must have a basic understanding of numerous job tasks and a working understanding of how individual craft employee's safety ties into each job.  Must have a working knowledge of incident review and analysis, investigation methods, and must be able to coordinate implementation of corrective actions to closure. Responsible for facilitating formal and informal investigation of incidents and injuries and assists in the preparation of investigation documentation and final reports. Compiles data and submits incident reports using a web-based incident management system called IMPACT.  Must have a working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access. Responsible for maintaining both electronic and hardcopy safety files and records.  Must have clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.  Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs so personal ethics and bearing are expected to be professional and beyond reproach. Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Education and Experience

Prefer at least five years of pipeline experience as safety specialist on the North Slope, preferably within the Trans Alaska Pipeline System.  Confined space competent person or evaluator experience is preferred. Must be knowledgeable and comfortable with computers, and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Windows Operating systems. Must have good verbal communications and technical writing skills and be able to communicate in a clear and concise fashion to personnel at all levels of the organization.  Must be able to work at remote locations for 10-12 hours/day on a rotating shift schedule.

A Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university in an HSE or science-related field is preferred.  A combination of Associate's degree and/or work experience in health and safety may be substituted for a Bachelor's degree at the discretion of the hiring manager.

Candidates with professional safety credentials such as: ASP, CSP, CIH, OHST, CHST are preferred. 

Candidate must already have or be able obtain a TWIC card.

Candidate must possess a valid driver's license.
