Summer Camp Counselor
Westtown School Summer Camp is seeking several interested and enthusiastic applicants for the position of Summer Camp Counselor to work June 8 - August 7, 2026. Camp Counselors assist the Lead Counselors with all camp activities while maintaining a supportive environment that reflects Westtown School's mission and values. Camp Counselors are responsible for supervising an age-specific group of campers while creating a fun and safe camp experience. The regular hours will be 8:30 am to 4:15 pm.
Westtown School Summer Camp is a traditional day camp program serving children ages 4 to 14, located on Westtown School's 600+ acre campus near West Chester, PA. At Westtown School Summer Camp, discovery and education await every child in a creative, supportive and inclusive environment rooted in the school's outdoor education traditions. Camp staff members lead campers in a wide variety of action-based educational projects each day. Our camp programs reflect the highest standards of respect, inclusion, and cooperation between counselors and campers.
Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers, within activities and throughout the camp experience;
  • Apply age-appropriate child development principles in working with campers, utilizing clear communication skills, interpersonal relationship building and respect for diversity;
  • Enthusiastically participate in the planning and implementation of creative and fun program activities, including assisting with specialized program areas such as waterfront, nature, and arts and crafts, as directed;
  • Maintain the highest standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff;
  • Be a positive role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior, setting a good example to campers and other staff members regarding general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and good sportsmanship;
  • Follow and uphold all safety and security protocols, reporting all safety concerns promptly to the Camp Director.
Qualifications
  • Must be entering 11th grade or above (16 years of age by the start of camp)
  • Prior camp or work experience preferred but not required
  • Ability to interact positively and provide necessary instruction to campers of all ages
  • Understanding of the developmental needs of children ages 4-14
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in designated camp program areas
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with diverse groups
  • Ability to walk, stand, and lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and respond appropriately
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to constantly supervise campers
