The Senior Accountant will be responsible for monthly close activities ensuring the integrity of the division’s financial results and will work with the finance team and other business owners to identify opportunities to streamline & automate our financial processes.
The expectation is that the individual in this role will be eligible to participate in the Company’s job rotation program within the finance community.
Company: Standard Motor Products, Inc. ($1.4 billion, global, NYSE manufacturer/distributor of automotive replacement parts) located in Long Island City, NY. The Engine Management Division is a $1 billion Division with operations in North America, Europe and Asia.
Primary Activities for the Role:
· Responsible for complete & accurate accounting & financial reporting of net sales in accordance with ASC 606
· Position will have a high level of interaction with the sales organization and will serve as a trusted business partner
· Participate in the monthly and quarterly close processes, including the consolidation and preparation of divisional financial statement schedules, review of certain balance sheet accounts and reconciliations.
· Assess accounting implications of new customer incentive agreements
· Work with finance & IT teams to design and implement process improvements; leverage our internal system capabilities, such as utilizing Business Intelligence Tool and Workday Adaptive to automate customer profitability reporting and to streamline accrual calculations.
· Prepare accruals, analysis and account reconciliations in accordance with the Company’s accounting policies and internal controls. Identify/resolve discrepancies in a timely fashion
· Participate in special projects, including cross-functional projects with business owners, the information technology group, and senior management.
Experience & Skills for the Role:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance,
· 4-7 years accounting experience; Big 4 experience & CPA preferred
· Strong understanding of US GAAP; experience with multinational companies preferred
· Proficiency in Microsoft suite. Knowledge of Workday Adaptive, BI Tool or other similar automation tools a plus.
· Experience with internal or external financial reporting
· High attention to detail, team player, strong business acumen, self-starter & independent thinking
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
