Job description
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Leader to lead and expand a growing MEP practice in Phoenix, Arizona. This is a high-impact leadership role for an established consulting engineer who combines technical expertise with strong business development capability, client leadership, and operational management experience.
In this position, you will oversee electrical and MEP engineering project delivery across a variety of commercial, institutional, and mixed-use developments while helping drive strategic business growth throughout the region.
This is not a traditional technical-only engineering role. The position functions as a practice-builder and seller-doer leadership opportunity focused on winning work, building long-term client relationships, developing teams, and driving profitability within the MEP division.
You will serve as both a technical leader and project manager, guiding projects from proposal and pursuit phases through design and delivery. Responsibilities include managing project scope, schedules, budgets, profitability, proposal development, electrical construction cost estimating, and multidisciplinary coordination with architects, mechanical engineers, and plumbing teams.
The role also includes significant leadership responsibility, including mentoring engineering staff, contributing to strategic growth initiatives, supporting market expansion efforts, and helping establish a sustainable and profitable consulting practice.
This opportunity is based in the Phoenix office with additional flexibility across Mesa and Scottsdale locations and limited hybrid scheduling depending on project requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering required
- Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred
- 15–25+ years of electrical engineering experience within a consulting environment preferred
- Strong knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI standards
- Proven experience leading MEP electrical engineering projects from pursuit through completion
- Strong client-facing consulting and relationship management experience
- Demonstrated success in business development, proposal development, and work-winning activities
- Proven ability to manage projects profitably and lead engineering teams
- Experience mentoring and developing technical staff
- Strong communication and presentation skills across technical and executive audiences
- Experience with MEP building systems for commercial, institutional, or mixed-use projects preferred
- Recent consulting engineering experience strongly preferred
- Healthcare project experience beneficial but not required
Benefits
This is a rare opportunity to step into a true engineering leadership role where technical expertise meets business ownership and long-term practice growth.
You will have the autonomy to shape strategy, build client relationships, win projects, mentor teams, and directly influence the expansion of a nationally respected MEP consulting practice. The role is ideal for an entrepreneurial engineering leader who thrives in a consulting-driven environment and enjoys balancing technical delivery with business growth responsibilities.
Compensation is highly competitive and heavily performance-driven, offering substantial upside for professionals who bring existing relationships, backlog opportunities, or strong business development capabilities. In addition to base salary and uncapped bonus potential, the company offers exceptionally strong retirement contributions and long-term wealth-building opportunities through profit-sharing programs.
The organization is widely recognized for its collaborative culture, retention-focused environment, leadership development programs, and long-term career advancement opportunities, making this an outstanding opportunity for a senior engineering professional seeking both impact and financial growth.
