Senior Underwriter (Workers’ Compensation) - Full-time

Location: Spring Valley, NY

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of commercial insurance experience with at least 3 years of Workers’ Compensation underwriting individual accounts.

  • Demonstrates accuracy, attention to detail, and thoroughness.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and provide a high level of customer service.

  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as accept direction on given assignments.

  • Ability to assess business opportunities with brokers and clients by understanding their problems and needs.

  • Efficient management of accounts.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Effective organizational skills.

  • Proficiency in Internet software and Microsoft Products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Job Description

  • Underwrite and grow a profitable book of business based on eligibility, loss analysis, exposure analysis, class code, and reinsurance acceptability.

  • Review Due Diligence reports, Loss control surveys, loss runs, and timeliness of premium payments.

  • Delegate activities of underwriting assistants and manage their response to compliance issues and requests from internal departments and external entities.

  • Present accounts to management for underwriting approval, accompanied by the appropriate underwriting data and recommendations.

  • Stay current with rules and regulations, market conditions, and corporate underwriting disciplines.
