JOB SUMMARY
The Group Underwriter is responsible for the review and analysis of risk presented on group product platforms. This position involves the use of various pricing models and analysis techniques. This position will work closely with members of the sales team, account services team, product team, operations and legal team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review new business RFP's for various product lines and determine appropriate pricing
  • Request and review medical records on medically underwritten programs
  • Review sold cases for complete information and verify rates as needed
  • Evaluate renewals and make pricing recommendations
  • Prepare formal proposals for prospects and renewals
  • Review policy change requests and perform plan change calculations
  • Complete financial exhibits and develop group performance reports when requested
  • Work directly with risk carrier and pricing actuaries on large opportunities
  • Work within authority limits and underwriting guidelines

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience related to group underwriting in an insurance environment
  • Understanding of underwriting principles and rating methodologies
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to interpret and assess risk within company guidelines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Requires strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Advanced MS Office skills, especially in using Excel, Word, PowerBI and PowerPoint

PREFERRED SKILLS
  • BA/BS in Insurance or related field
  • Insurance industry experience working with Accident & Health and major medical products a plus
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
