Role Summary:
The Banquets Manager is responsible for assisting in managing 12,000 square feet of in house function space along with the banquet space of our various outlets which include CityGate Grille, The Tap In and Che Figata, to name a few and directs the efforts of all banquet staff in production, food and beverage service, and guest attention for all logistics of banquet events. The incumbent must have a complete understanding of luxury client needs and expectations, impeccable attention to detail and a keen understanding of what it takes to run a profitable operation. Provides support and guidance to banquet servers and set-up attendants and effectively communicates with the Catering and Culinary teams to ensure a positive guest experience.

Responsibilities:
  1. Be knowledgeable of fine dining, wines, and great service leadership.
  2. Assist in organizing and conducting pre-shift and departmental meetings.
  3. Have a comprehensive and detailed understanding of all Food & Beverage operations.
  4. Conduct on-going training programs for new and existing associates
  5. Able to multi-task and prioritize in a deadline-driven, demanding environment.
  6. Provide service quality and consistency that allows the team to achieve standards.
  7. Coordinate the F&B, Sales, and Convention Services teams for group events.
  8. Ensure food quality and consistency.
  9. Assist with inventories and ensure F&B liquor control.
  10. Provide a positive, empowering, and productive work environment through setting an example and consistency of daily work habits and standards.
  11. Instruct new hires and existing associates on the expectations and responsibilities for each of their roles.
  12. Interact positively with customers promoting hotel and banquet services.
  13. Maintain a close and harmonious working relationship with all departments.
  14. Analyze, investigate, and resolve guest complaints.
  15. Fully understand all applicable emergency procedures and evacuations including; fire, bomb threat, weather-related instances, power failure, and injury to and illness of persons.
  16. Be present during events and at all times that the team needs. This includes weekends, evenings and holidays.
  17. Assist in re-vamping and improving processes, steps of service and aesthetic.
  18. Recommend policy and procedural changes for all areas.
  19. Assist in the Implementation process and monitoring of budget within the approved budget constraints.
  20. Analyze banquet event orders, communicate effectively with customers, managers and associates to ensure all room setups, equipment, supplies, staffing and menus meet/exceed customer’s expectations.
  21. Review all schedules, equipment, supplies and organize workflow to ensure a quality event to customers on a daily basis.
  22. Implement company programs and resolve daily operational problems through consistent monitoring of operations to ensure compliance with safety and security regulations, SOPs and to ensure an optimum level of service, quality and hospitality.
  23. Supervise associates in the area of assignment to retain and motivate associates, hire, train, develop, empower, coach and counsel, conduct performance and salary reviews, resolve problems, provide open communication and recommend discipline and termination, as appropriate.
  24. Participate in all special projects, task forces and committees as required.
  25. Provide direction and supervision of meeting and/or catering logistics to affected departments and team members.
  26. Ensure all details of assigned events are covered. Tasks include, but are not limited to; preparing printed materials, day-of coordination, BEO updates, communication of event updates, room layout, etc.
  27. Assists with long and short term planning and day-to-day operations of the banquet section.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  1. A bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited university/college preferred or relevant industry/banquet experience
  2. Serv Safe certification required.
  3. Certification in alcohol awareness program (BASSET) is required.

Experience:
  1. Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices within the catering, food and beverage and hospitality professions. This includes experiential knowledge for supervising of people, complex problems, efficient sales activities and food and beverage management.
  2. Ability to investigate and analyze current activities and/or information involving readily available data and indicating logical conclusions and recommendations.
  3. Ability to make decisions which are generally guided by established policies and procedures.
  4. Previous supervisory experience in Food and Beverage is required with at least 4-5 years of supervisory experience in Banquets.
  5. Demonstrated hospitality/restaurant skills and a strong work ethic are required.

Skills:
  1. Excellent verbal, written skills and management skills
  2. Neat and clean appearance.
  3. Ability to work in a team environment with a diverse group of people.
  4. Strong understanding of hotel and banquet financials
  5. Compute basic arithmetic.
  6. Must have a flexible schedule and be available to work nights weekends, and holidays

Physical Requirements:
  1. Must be able to stand, sit and walk for up to 12 hours per day
  2. Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
  3. Must be able to bend, squat and lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
  4. Must be able to carry, push and pull up to 50 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
