In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring production continuity by executing purchasing activities for metals (sheet, plate, tube), electrical/electronic components, and fasteners.

Position Summary and Purpose:
Execute procurement activities in support of production and operational requirements, with a focus on direct materials including metals, electrical/electronic components, and fasteners. This role emphasizes supplier coordination, purchase order execution, and foundational sourcing support, while building core competencies in cost management, lead time reduction, and inventory optimization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Execute day-to-day purchasing activities, including purchase order placement, order management, and supplier follow-up
  • Support sourcing initiatives for direct materials, including metals and electrical/electronic components
  • Monitor supplier performance (delivery, responsiveness, and quality) and escalate issues as needed
  • Collaborate with Planning, Operations, and Engineering to align supply with demand requirements
  • Maintain accurate system data (pricing, lead times, and order dates) within ERP systems (Epicor or similar)
  • Assist in cost savings and cost avoidance initiatives through basic analysis and supplier engagement
  • Support RFQs, quote comparisons, and supplier onboarding activities
  • Coordinate with suppliers to confirm schedules, communicate demand changes, and mitigate risks
  • Participate in inventory optimization efforts, including min/max levels, safety stock, and excess/obsolete reduction
  • Develop foundational supplier relationships and support continuous improvement initiatives

Preferred Commodity Exposure:
  • Metals: sheet, plate, tube, and machined/fabricated components
  • Electrical: enclosures, connectors, controls, and PLC-related components
  • Fasteners: standard and engineered fasteners (bolts, nuts, screws, washers), including supplier stocking and VMI programs

Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or a related role (internship/co-op experience considered)
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Basic understanding of ERP systems (Epicor Kinetic experience a plus)
  • Proficiency in Excel (sorting, filtering, and basic analysis)
  • Strong communication skills with both internal teams and suppliers

Preferred:
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Exposure to direct material procurement (metals or electrical components)
  • Familiarity with MRP concepts (lead times, safety stock, and demand signals)
  • Early-stage negotiation or supplier interaction experience
