Position Summary: Buyer/Planner

The Buyer/Planner position in our purchasing department plays a critical role in ensuring the right materials are available at the right time to support dynamic and often unpredictable customer demand. This position requires a proactive, data-driven approach to planning and inventory management, balancing service levels with cost efficiency. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, collaborates cross-functionally, and leverages systems and analytics to drive results. This is an in person role reporting to the MN HQ office daily, remote work not considered.

Definition of Buyer/Planner Success:

  • High material availability within minimal excess or obsolescence.
  • Rapid, accurate response to demand changes and supply disruptions.
  • Strong supplier performance and internal alignment across planning functions.
  • Continuous improvement in planning accuracy, inventory health, and system utilization.

Key Responsibilities:

Demand-Driven Planning.

  • Analyze historical usage, customer forecasts, and market trends to develop material plans that align with demand variability.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Customer Service, and Engineering to anticipate shifts in demand and adjust plans accordingly.

Inventory Optimization.

  • Maintain optimal inventory levels across multiple product lines and locations to ensure availability while minimizing excess and obsolescence.
  • Monitor safety stock thresholds and re-order points using ERP/MRP systems for material replenishment.

Supplier Coordination.

  • Communicate material requirements and delivery schedules to suppliers; expedite, or defer orders as needed.

Production & Fulfillment Support.

  • Align material availability with production schedules and customer delivery commitments.
  • Support kitting, staging, and replenishment activities for engineered assemblies and configured products.

System & Process Management.

  • Maintain accurate planning parameters in ERP systems (lead-times, lot sizes, MOQ, etc).
  • Drive continuous improvement in planning processes, tools, and metrics.

Cross-Functional Collaboration.

  • Serve as a key liaison between Supply Chain, Operations, Sales, and Engineering to ensure alignment of priorities and timelines.
  • Participate in SIOP (Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning) meetings and contribute to scenario planning.

Buyer/Planner Role Qualifications:

  • CPIM certification preferred. If you do not have this certification you will be required to obtain it during your first year of employment. Allegis will pay class expenses in exchange for a one year commitment to Allegis after certification is obtained.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field; or 3-5 years of practical material and inventory planning experience.
  • 2-3 years of experience in material planning, inventory control, or production planning – preferably in a distribution or engineered products environment.
  • Strong understanding of MRP/ERP systems, Epicor Prophet 21 experience preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools; ability to interpret trends and drive decisions.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to report to the MN HQ office daily, remote work not considered.
