Job Description

Primarily responsible to “Own” all of the business facets of the Batter or Dough Line.  The Production Unit Leader for Café Valley will plan, direct, and coordinate the work activities and resources across all teams and departments necessary for manufacturing products in accordance with cost, quality, and quantity specifications.


ResponsibilitiesEssential functions and responsibilities:
Manages all aspects of the Production units to include People and production schedules, inventory, quality systems, Maintenance needs, staffing requirements, work procedures, or duty assignments and cost controls.
Ensure that Redzone is properly used, and quality goals and criteria are consistently met.
Direct or coordinate People scheduling and production operations activities.
Direct Lean events such as Kaizens, Gembas and Optimizations in the department to focus improvement efforts.
Review operations and confer with technical or administrative staff to resolve production or processing problems.
Hire, train, evaluate, or discharge staff or resolve personnel issues.
Prepare and maintain production reports or personnel records.
Ensure that the integrity of Corporate programs like the Baker Buddy program, Life-cycle program and training Technician program.
Develop budgets or approve expenditures for supplies, materials, or human resources, ensuring that materials, labor, or equipment are used efficiently to meet production targets.
Coordinate or recommend procedures for facility or equipment maintenance or modification, including the replacement of machines.
Performs all other duties as assigned.

Physical demands and work environment:
Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the associate is occasionally required to climb, balance, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, use hands to finger, grasp, or feel objects, talk, hear, and visually inspect areas to be cleaned.
Work environment: Light work exerting up to 20lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force consistently to move objects.
Both inside and outside environmental conditions: Activities occur in coolers and freezers during shift. Exposure to cold and freezing temperatures in the coolers and freezers areas. Exposure to high heat while in the warehouse, especially during summer months.
Humidity:  Exposure to humid conditions ranging from 70 to 92 percent.
Noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
Hazard: Includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
Oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils.

Bachelor’s Degree in business or related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience in food manufacturing/processing/bakery

Qualifications desired:
Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Lean certifications  

Success factors/job competencies:
General knowledge of the principles and practices of personnel administration.
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, cost management, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for service, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Job requires a willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction.
Ability to work well in a team environment.
