About the Job Senior Electrical Engineer

This position will be responsible for managing electrical and control systems scopes in support of the development and implementation of a diverse portfolio of capital and operations improvement projects, with a focus on design and execution.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum of eight (8) or more years of progressive heavy industry experience
  • Bachelor's Degree Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Good familiarity with design, installation, upgrade, commissioning, operation and maintenance of power distribution systems, breakers, transformers, switchgear, power monitoring etc.
  • Thorough understanding of and capability to perform system and analytical studies including short circuit, grounding, coordination, load flow, motor starting, conduit and cable tray fill, and arc flash.
  • Knowledge in the design of either low, medium or high voltage power distribution, including transformer sizing and cable sizing.
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley's family of PLC componentry and the ability to design and maintain PLC systems.
  • Experience in HMI design and programming, particularly with FLSmidth ECS and Rockwell Automation RSLogix/FactoryTalk View suite of software products.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the creation and validation of detailed electrical and process control designs and documentation.
  • Review, develop and maintain project electrical control systems design criteria, guidelines, standards, and practices based on latest codes, technologies, and methodologies.
  • Lead the preparation of technical scoping, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, including cost estimates for a wide range of electrical and control systems projects.
  • Collaborate with internal technical specialists and operations personnel, as well as external consultants, equipment suppliers, technology providers, contractors, and personnel from partner Utilities.
  • Manage the procurement of goods and services by preparing requests for proposals and related technical documents, review bids and participate in evaluation and provide recommendations for contract award/purchasing activities.
  • Review generation of project documentation that includes technical recommendations, scope of work packages, and commissioning documents.
  • Maintain proper documentation of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems and keep drawings and files current including process instrumentation diagrams, interlock diagrams, network diagrams, business continuity plans and standard operating procedures.
  • Organize and provide engineering support for the design, construction, commissioning and operations phases of each project.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement improvements to increase productivity, increase product uniformity and quality, and reduce costs.
  • Prepare cash flow analysis and Capital Asset Requisition (CAR) forms for financial justifications and capital budget requests.
  • Provide mentorship for the growth of junior engineering staff and operations/maintenance personnel.
