Methodology is a rapidly scaling US-based direct-to-consumer meal delivery service with its own kitchen, order fulfillment, and delivery operations. We aim to transform how consumers eat and live. As we bring all finance, tax, and accounting functions in-house, we are seeking a world-class solo finance leader to streamline, protect, and optimize our finances in partnership with our COO and Chief of People.
We are hiring an exceptionally detail-oriented Controller (CPA, US Tax Specialist) to serve as our single point of excellence for accounting, financial modeling, expense control, and — critically — all federal, state, city, and county US tax compliance and optimization. This is a direct, remote partner to the COO and Chief of People. You will directly replace all outsourced CPA/tax services as the leader‐doer to innovate and execute Methodology's finance strategy.
Key Responsibilities US Tax Strategy & Compliance Prepare, file, and sign all required corporate tax returns at the federal, state, city, and county levels, including all US e‐file requirements. Proactively research, propose, and claim all available credits, incentives, and deductions to minimize tax liability (covering R&D, donated food, employment, green credits, manufacturing incentives, etc.). Stay fully current on IRS updates as well as state, city, and county tax changes for every applicable Methodology jurisdiction.
Serve as company expert and sole coordinator for any tax inquiries, audits, or governmental correspondence. Maintain or obtain IRS Acceptance Agent/Enrolled Agent credentials as eligible for e‐filling and authenticating US returns from the Philippines. Expense Control & Recognition Approve every company expense; ensure tight controls, clear documentation, and proper categorical assignment—first through best‐in‐class automation, then manually validating every general ledger entry.
Partner with every business function (including manufacturing, logistics, marketing, and customer service) to understand operational details so every transaction is coded accurately (COGS, inventory, OpEx, overhead, etc.). Identify cost savings or reclassification opportunities through deep business knowledge and analytics. Accounting Operations & Manufacturing Support Own all financial operations: oversee AP/AR, GL reconciliations, payroll (liaising with processors), and both cash and accrual close cycles.
Prepare all financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, management dashboards) under US GAAP. Manage "hybrid" e‐commerce + manufacturing accounting: inventory, COGS, overhead allocation, production cost modeling, and merchant processor reconciliation (e.g., Shopify, Stripe, Amazon, etc.). Build, manage, and iterate operating models (budgets, forecasts, sensitivity analyses, and business case scenarios) as requested by leadership.
Process Excellence & Audit Readiness Champion modern workflow: implement and continuously upgrade digital tools (QuickBooks Online/Xero, Bill.com, Dext, automated recognition, etc.). Keep all books always "audit ready" for the US and state/city/county authorities. Provide all support schedules and detailed records for any audit or regulatory review.
Requirements CPA required. US CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA, IRS e‐filing authorized), a plus but not required. At least 3 years' progressive US-focused experience with: Corporate and multijurisdiction tax prep (federal, state, and local/county).
US-based e‐commerce and manufacturing accounting, including inventory/COGS. Experience researching and successfully claiming advanced tax credits and incentives. Operating model and scenario planning creation in Excel or Google Sheets.
Mastery of QuickBooks Online/Xero and expense recognition/approval workflows. Track record as sole finance/accounting/tax lead, supporting or partnering directly with US management. Perfect written/spoken English and highly professional, proactive communicator.
Analytical, ethical, resourceful, and wholly accountable. Application Instructions To apply: Send a current resume and cover letter detailing: Your experience in US corporate, multi‐state/local tax compliance, returns, and credits. Your accounting background or any other relevant experience, including inventory costing or COGS optimization work.
Example operating models or analytical work owned. Your experience in controlling and approving all company expense flows (manual & software‐driven). Any US tax credentials (especially Enrolled Agent/IRS e‐filer).
