Job description

Overview
History of the Company: Superior Ambulance Service started in 1959 with one ambulance and today is the largest independent, locally owned, and operated emergency medical services provider in the Midwest. Superior employs more than 4,000 licensed EMTs, Paramedics, and Nurses, operating a fleet of more than 800 ambulances throughout Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Superior also provides Critical Care, helicopter, and fixed wing emergency medical transportation.
The Aviation Business Development Manager is responsible for driving growth and expanding market share for Superior's aviation and specialty transport services. This role serves as the primary sales and relationship leader for fixed-wing medical transportation, rotor-wing medical transportation, transplant organ recovery transportation, and specialty patient transport services. The position focuses on developing strategic relationships with hospitals, health systems, transplant centers, organ procurement organizations, healthcare providers, and community partners to increase utilization of Superior's aviation capabilities and patient transport solutions.
The Aviation Business Development Manager will collaborate closely with operational leadership to identify growth opportunities, enhance customer relationships, and support the continued expansion of aviation services throughout Superior's service area.
Responsibilities
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Aviation Business Development consist of, but are not limited to the following:
Business Development & Sales
  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans to drive growth in aviation and specialty transport services.
  • Generate new business opportunities for fixed-wing air ambulance transport, rotor-wing medical transport, organ recovery transportation, and specialty patient transport services.
  • Identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with hospitals, healthcare systems, trauma centers, transplant centers, emergency departments, case management teams, and physician groups.
  • Represent Superior Aviation Services at industry conferences, healthcare events, and community outreach programs.
  • Conduct sales presentations, service reviews, and educational sessions for prospective and existing customers.
  • Monitor market trends, competitive activity, and industry developments to identify opportunities for growth.

Aviation Service Line Development
  • Promote and expand utilization of fixed-wing medical transportation services.
  • Promote rotor-wing emergency and critical care transport capabilities.
  • Develop partnerships that support transplant organ recovery transportation and organ procurement programs.
  • Collaborate with operational leadership to identify opportunities for service line expansion and operational improvements.
  • Support the implementation of new aviation programs, service offerings, and strategic initiatives.

Customer Relationship Management
  • Serve as the primary liaison between aviation customers and operational leadership.
  • Maintain regular contact with key stakeholders to ensure customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Respond to customer concerns and work collaboratively with operations teams to resolve service issues.
  • Conduct quarterly business reviews and develop action plans to strengthen partnerships.

Strategic Growth Initiatives
  • Support growth initiatives for transplant and organ recovery programs.
  • Expand relationships with Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs), transplant centers, and healthcare partners.
  • Identify opportunities to increase interfacility, specialty care, and patient transport volumes.
  • Develop referral networks that support long-term aviation service growth.
  • Assist leadership in forecasting service demand and developing growth strategies.

Reporting & Analysis
  • Maintain accurate records of sales activities, customer interactions, and business opportunities.
  • Track key performance indicators, revenue growth, referral trends, and market penetration.
  • Prepare monthly business development reports for the Vice President of Business Development and Executive Director of Aviation.
  • Utilize CRM systems and reporting tools to document sales activities and opportunities.

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Aviation Management, Marketing, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of business development, healthcare sales, aviation sales, EMS, air medical, or healthcare relationship management experience.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare systems, patient transport, emergency medical services, or aviation operations.
  • Excellent presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel frequently.

Preferred
  • Experience within air medical transportation, EMS, aviation services, or hospital business development.
  • Knowledge of transplant logistics, organ procurement processes, and critical care transportation.
  • Existing relationships with healthcare systems, transplant centers, or emergency services providers.
  • Experience utilizing CRM and sales performance tracking tools.
