What is a WMS implementation?

A WMS implementation involves deploying and configuring a Warehouse Management System to optimize inventory tracking, order fulfillment, and warehouse operations. It requires understanding of logistics processes, data integration, and often involves training staff on the new system. Successful implementation improves efficiency and accuracy in warehouse management.

What are some common challenges faced during a WMS Implementation, and how can they be addressed?

A common challenge during a WMS (Warehouse Management System) implementation is ensuring seamless integration with existing systems, such as ERP or inventory platforms. Misalignment in data formats or workflows can lead to delays or errors. Another frequent hurdle is change management, as warehouse staff need adequate training and support to adapt to new processes. Proactive communication, thorough testing, and phased rollouts can help mitigate risks and make the transition smoother for all stakeholders involved.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in WMS Implementation, and why are they important?

To thrive in WMS (Warehouse Management System) Implementation, you need a solid understanding of supply chain processes, warehouse operations, and relevant IT or logistics degrees or certifications. Familiarity with leading WMS software (such as SAP EWM, Manhattan, or Oracle), project management tools, and integration platforms is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help manage cross-functional teams and client expectations. These skills are crucial for ensuring smooth system deployment, minimizing disruptions, and optimizing warehouse efficiency.

We work at the intersection of strategy, operations, and technology where we solve complex, real-world problems across warehouse design, automation, order management, transportation, and end-to-end supply chain execution.
Our teams combine deep domain expertise with strong technical capability, delivering outcomes through consulting, systems implementation, and proprietary platforms that accelerate time-to-value and reduce delivery risk.
If you enjoy working in complex environments, partnering closely with clients, and seeing your work make a tangible impact on how global commerce moves, this is the place where your skills and judgment truly come to life.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a Warehouse Management System (WMS) Consultant with a solid foundation in supply chain operations and WMS implementations. Candidates with experience across WMS platforms (e.g., Manhattan, Blue Yonder, HighJump, SAP EWM, etc.) and strong knowledge of warehouse processes are encouraged to apply. Suitable candidates will receive client-specific training during onboarding.
This role blends technical aptitude and functional expertise to implement, configure, and support WMS solutions tailored to our clients' business needs, with a strong emphasis on advanced SQL (including stored procedures) and hands-on troubleshooting across application, integration, and database layers.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and support WMS implementation and configuration projects end-to-end.
  • Analyze business, functional, and integration requirements to design effective WMS solutions.
  • Configure core WMS modules: Inbound, Outbound, Inventory, Returns, Picking, Shipping, etc.
  • Collaborate with internal and client teams to develop custom logic using client configuration and extensibility tools.
  • Support API testing (e.g., Postman) and manage system integrations with ERP, OMS, TMS, and MHE/automation systems.
  • Write, review, optimize, and maintain SQL queries and stored procedures within relational databases (e.g., Oracle, MySQL).
  • Perform root-cause analysis, debugging, and performance tuning (queries, stored procedures, indexing, execution plans).
  • Partner with clients and stakeholders during SIT, UAT, go-live, and post-go-live phases.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and resolve both functional and technical problems within defined SLAs.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain high-quality documentation: technical designs, test plans, runbooks, and configuration records.

Required Skills & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in WMS implementations or supply chain execution systems.
  • Strong techno-functional background in any WMS platform.
  • Deep understanding of warehouse workflows: receiving, picking, packing, shipping, returns, etc.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, including designing and optimizing stored procedures, complex queries, indexing, and performance tuning on relational databases (e.g., Oracle, MySQL).
  • Experience with API testing tools and system integrations (ERP/OMS/TMS/MHE).
  • Demonstrable troubleshooting and debugging skills across application, integration, and data layers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.

Preferred / Nice to Have:
  • Experience integrating WMS with Goods-to-Person, AS/RS, or other automation technologies.
  • Exposure to OMS, TMS, or EDI messaging standards.
  • Experience in Agile/DevOps environments.

Travel Requirements:
  • This position requires approximately 50% travel initially, with the potential to increase up to 75% over the next six months.

Note:
We are open to candidates from any WMS or broader supply chain background who demonstrate the right technical and functional mindset. Suitable candidates will receive client-specific training as part of their onboarding.
Month-to-Month Activities (Summary):
Months 1-2:
  • Onboarding, deep dive into WMS platforms, familiarize with supply chain workflows, shadow implementation teams, review documentation and tools (SQL, API testing).

Months 3-4:
  • Engage with clients for requirement gathering, analyze business processes, draft functional specifications, participate in Agile ceremonies, start basic configuration tasks.

Months 5-6:
  • Lead configuration of core WMS modules (Inbound, Outbound, Inventory), collaborate on integrations (ERP, OMS, TMS), support SIT/UAT phases, begin troubleshooting and optimization.

Months 7-9:
  • Drive end-to-end implementation for mid-sized projects, manage custom logic development, oversee API testing and database queries, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Months 10-12:
  • Lead strategic WMS deployments, mentor junior team members, refine integration strategies, provide roadmap inputs, deliver measurable outcomes (uptime, cost optimization), and support post-go-live enhancements.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
  • Customer Success: Requirements captured accurately, high customer satisfaction scores, successful implementation, and go-live support.
  • Product Delivery: Sprint velocity maintained, timely delivery of WMS configurations and integrations, minimal requirement-related defects during SIT/UAT.
