Job description

Title: Fine Wire Operator
Job Summary:
Precise operation of metal-forming mill equipment to include precision fine wire drawing machines, strand annealing furnaces, spooling machines, future equipment, and new technology.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Safely and effectively operate various metal-forming machines with other operators.
  • Use tools and routing instructions in conjunction with precision equipment to fabricate high quality materials.
  • Communicate with supervisor(s) regarding purchasing of consumable items.
  • Work with Production Control and all other manufacturing departments to produce on-time customer deliveries.
  • Have full understanding of company policies, paperwork, and systems to repeatedly produce quality material products.
  • Must work well in a "team environment".
  • Must follow shop order dates and processes accurately while informing supervisors or engineers of any non-conformances.
  • Strive to continually improve processes, equipment efficiency, and quality.
  • Be willing to train and operate various pieces of mill equipment as assigned by supervision.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Review job requirements at the beginning of each shift.
  • Notify supervision when any job may go "overdue" or yield short and why.
  • Inspect and sign off for quality on each operation, complete M2M reporting for each operation, and notify supervision of any non-conformances.
  • Maintain material and scrap identity throughout processing.
  • Follow operator and maintenance logs as required.
  • Notify supervision of any equipment problems.
  • Maintain tooling and equipment integrity on a daily basis and notify supervision in advance for potential needs.
  • Work with other operators to communicate and coordinate job flow through the Materials Department.
  • Must maintain a neat and clean workplace.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Must demonstrate ability to be fully trained on various pieces of metal-forming machinery.
  • Must show strong mechanical skills and an ability to use hand tools and measuring equipment.
  • Must have an attention to detail and a solid understanding of measuring tools (micrometers/calipers).
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with other team members and supervisors.
  • Must be able to read and interpret work instructions, job routers, quality documents and drawings and use this information to produce high quality material in-line with customer expectations.
Experience & Education Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • At least 2 years manufacturing experience
  • Strong mechanical skills
  • Ability to work with hands
  • Micrometer/caliper experience
  • Basic math skills
  • Legible writing skills
  • Basic computer skills
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
