Drawing Operator II

Location: El Paso, Texas,
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (Night Shift)
Pay Rate: $53144-$54,080

Job Overview

The Drawing Operator II is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring multiwire drawing machines used to produce copper wire from feeder stock. This role ensures efficient production while maintaining product quality, safety standards, and proper machine operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate multiwire drawing machines to produce various sizes of copper wire.

  • Run correct wire sizes and lengths according to production orders.

  • Load and unload bobbins and reels, including matched sets and matched lengths.

  • Perform pay-off and take-up reel changes.

  • Perform hot-welds and cold-welds on feeder stock to maintain continuous production.

  • Set up and adjust dies to achieve proper wire reduction.

  • Measure wire and monitor machine controls to ensure quality and production efficiency.

  • Maintain proper inventory of Work-in-Progress (WIP) tags.

  • Inspect wire for defects and troubleshoot breakouts or feeder stock issues.

  • Perform gear changes, traverse adjustments, and annealer settings as required.

  • Weigh take-up packages and record production data.

  • Coordinate with lift drivers to ensure smooth material handling.

  • Dispose of scrap materials in designated bins.

Cross-Training
  • Cross-train on equipment within the assigned workgroup.

  • Fill in for other roles when needed due to absence or operational needs.

  • Participate in periodic job rotation to maintain skill proficiency.

Quality Responsibilities
  • Follow the company’s ISO Quality System procedures.

  • Perform routine quality checks and minor maintenance.

  • Ensure products meet quality standards before release.

  • Report any quality issues to supervisors immediately.

Safety Responsibilities
  • Follow all workplace safety policies and procedures.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

  • Ensure safe operation of all equipment and machinery.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English

  • Ability to lift up to 45 lbs

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks

  • Ability to work in hot or cold industrial environments

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
