Job description

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous work experience in a
    manufacturing environment.
  • High school education or the equivalent.
  • Previous experience as wire drawing operator preferred.

LICENSES OR
CERTIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

A wire drawer is responsible for sizing copper/aluminum rods. Duties require stringing up machine,
adjusting traverse and tensions during start up and while product is running.
May run two (2) machine at same time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates machine to draw rod or wire down to various sizes.
  • Loads wire on supply payoff, splices wire with electric or manual butt welder, pulls wire
    supply to draw block cabinet, strings wire around draw blocks.
  • Installs drawing dies in appropriate location, wraps finish capstan, threads wire guides and
    annealer, wraps wire around buffer tower, attaches wire to dummy reel on the outside of take-up basket.
  • When wire beaks occur, operator restrings machine according to wire drawing operator’s procedure
    manual.
  • After completion of a basket, cut and check wire samples for size, roundness and elongation and record results on process control charts.
  • Completes identity tag with correct information and places tags on basket.
  • Totally responsible for quality of end product
  • Must also be able to use a micrometer to measure the diameter size, conduct visual checks,
    identify and resolve problems.
  • Perform other duties as directed by Supervisor.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Read,write, perform mathematical calculations, understand verbal or written instructions, provide verbal or written information to others, work continuous shift if requested, work scheduled or unscheduled overtime if requested, maintain a good attendance and punctuality record, follow all safety rules and maintain housekeeping in area of responsibility, work well with others, and distinguish colors correctly.

Material Used: Aluminum and Copper rod, (5/16” diameter), break down wire n 10 or 12 gauge, copper wire in various gauges, solution used as a coolant, water soluble oil used in annealing, control charts for recording characteristics of operations.

Must be able to multi task.

This position requires standing and walking for most of the shift. The position duties require bending,
lifting, pushing and pulling. Usage of material handling equipment available when needed. Ability to hear; excessive noise level requires the use of hearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), other PPEs required: safety glasses and steel toed safety shoes.

Equipment used: Wire drawing machines, polycrystalline and nature diamond drawing dies, powered hoist, electrical or mechanical butt welder splicer’s, electrical or manual die string up machines, metal baskets, laser micro-meter, elongation tester, wire cutters, pliers, power chisel, electrical reel hauler, forklift, battery charger, weight scales, operator’s procedure manual.

COMPUTER EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:

  • OJT - Will use company system – SAP
