Assistant Kitchen Manager

Round Barn Public House – Baroda, MI
Full-Time | Hourly or Salaried, Based on Experience

Position Summary

Round Barn Public House is seeking an experienced, dependable, and hands-on Assistant Kitchen Manager to support daily culinary operations in our fast-paced restaurant.

This position works closely with the Kitchen Manager and culinary leadership to maintain food quality, consistency, cleanliness, staffing, and efficient execution during service. The ideal candidate is a strong line cook and developing leader who can coach employees, manage priorities, and help keep the kitchen organized and operating at a high level.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Kitchen Manager in overseeing daily kitchen operations.
  • Lead and support Line Cooks, Prep Cooks, Dishwashers, and other kitchen team members during assigned shifts.
  • Ensure food is prepared according to established recipes, portion standards, and presentation expectations.
  • Monitor ticket times, station readiness, food quality, and kitchen flow during service.
  • Assist with opening, closing, and shift-change procedures.
  • Train and coach kitchen employees on recipes, preparation methods, sanitation, and safety standards.
  • Maintain appropriate food and supply levels and communicate shortages to management.
  • Assist with inventory, receiving, storage, and proper product rotation.
  • Help manage prep levels and daily production needs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe kitchen.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable food safety and sanitation requirements.
  • Support scheduling, labor management, and operational planning as assigned.
  • Assist with resolving kitchen issues quickly and professionally.
  • Lead by example through urgency, teamwork, accountability, and attention to detail.
Qualifications
  • Previous culinary or restaurant kitchen experience required.
  • Previous lead cook, shift lead, sous chef, or kitchen supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, food safety, and sanitation.
  • Strong knife skills and ability to work multiple kitchen stations.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and communicate effectively with kitchen employees.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and productive during high-volume service.
  • Dependable, accountable, and team-oriented.
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak business periods.
Physical Requirements
