Both roles involve remote work and serve Shopify users, but differ mainly in compensation and credential requirements.

How does a Volunteer Shopify Customer Service representative typically collaborate with other team members to resolve customer inquiries?

As a Volunteer Shopify Customer Service representative, you’ll often work closely with both fellow volunteers and paid staff to address customer questions and issues. This collaboration may involve using shared communication tools, such as team chat platforms or ticketing systems, to escalate technical concerns or seek advice from more experienced team members. Regular meetings or check-ins are common to discuss recurring issues, align on best practices, and ensure a consistent customer experience. Building strong communication skills and being proactive in seeking support from the team are key to success in this collaborative environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Volunteer Shopify Customer Service representative, and why are they important?

To excel as a Volunteer Shopify Customer Service representative, strong communication skills, basic e-commerce knowledge, and familiarity with the Shopify platform are essential, though formal qualifications may not be required. Experience with customer support tools like Zendesk or Shopify's built-in ticketing system is beneficial. Patience, empathy, and problem-solving abilities help in addressing customer concerns effectively and maintaining positive interactions. These skills ensure customer satisfaction, efficient issue resolution, and contribute to the overall reputation and success of the online store.

Job description

Are you obsessed with data, partner success, taking action, and changing the game? If you have a whole lot of hustle and a touch of nerd, come work with Pattern! We want you to use your skills to push one of the fastest-growing companies headquartered in the US to the top of the list.

Pattern accelerates brands on global ecommerce marketplaces leveraging proprietary technology and AI. Utilizing more than 66 trillion data points, sophisticated machine learning and AI models, Pattern optimizes and automates all levers of ecommerce growth for global brands, including advertising, content management, logistics and fulfillment, pricing, forecasting and customer service. Hundreds of global brands depend on Pattern’s ecommerce acceleration platform every day to drive profitable revenue growth across 60+ global marketplaces—including Amazon, Walmart.com, Target.com, eBay, Tmall, TikTok Shop, JD, and Mercado Libre. To learn more, visit pattern.com or email press@pattern.com.

Pattern has been named one of the fastest growing tech companies headquartered in North America by Deloitte and one of best-led companies by Inc. We place employee experience at the center of our business model and have been recognized as one of Newsweek’s Global Most Loved Workplaces®.

We are looking for a Senior Shopify Developer to lead the technical evolution of our high-growth storefronts on Shopify Plus. You will be a true game-changer, responsible for a complete website revamp and building custom, scalable solutions that define the future of our digital presence. If you thrive on technical challenges like building custom apps and navigating the complexities of Checkout Extensibility, this is your chance to make a massive impact.
What are the responsibilities of a Shopify Developer at Pattern?
  • Architect & Launch: Lead the end-to-end installation of new Shopify stores, including custom theme development (Liquid/Hydrogen), module integration, and complex API configurations.

  • Modernize for Agentic Commerce: Execute the migration of stores from outdated, monolithic stacks to modern, headless, or optimized Shopify environments, ensuring they are "agent-ready" with clean data structures and robust API endpoints.

  • Public App Development: Build and maintain Pattern’s public Shopify applications, ensuring seamless integration between Pattern’s proprietary technology and the Shopify admin.

  • Bridge the Gap: Work closely with our Data and AI teams to ensure our Shopify implementations support the next generation of automated commerce.

  • Optimize for Scale: Ensure all builds meet the highest standards for performance, SEO, and global accessibility for brands operating in dozens of international markets.

  • Collaborate with other Teams: Help cross-functional teams to integrate third-party systems like ERPs, CRMs, and payment gateways

What will I need to thrive in this role?
  • Shopify Mastery: 5+ years of deep experience with Shopify’s ecosystem (Liquid, Shopify Flow, Scripts, and Checkout Extensibility).

  • Modern Web Stack: Proficiency in React, Node.js, and Remix (the standard for Shopify App development). Experience with Hydrogen/Oxygen is a major plus.

  • API Expert: Extensive experience with Shopify’s GraphQL and REST Admin APIs, as well as the Storefront API.

  • Migration Veteran: A proven track record of migrating large-scale stores from platforms like Magento, Salesforce, or custom legacy stacks onto Shopify.

  • Product Mindset: You don't just write code; you understand the business logic of e-commerce—from conversion rate optimization (CRO) to complex inventory fulfillment.

  • Coding Proficiency: Mastery of Shopify Liquid, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and TypeScript.

  • Integration Knowledge: Skilled in managing Webhooks, Customer Events, and complex third-party API integrations.

  • Performance Driven: A strong understanding of SEO, accessibility, and web performance optimization standards.

  • The "Agentic" Vision: An interest in or experience with AI/LLMs and how they interface with structured e-commerce data.

What does high performance look like?
  • Execution Excellence: Successful delivery of a fully revamped, high-converting storefront within established timelines.

  • Technical Innovation: Implementation of custom Shopify Functions that migrate and improve upon legacy Shopify Scripts.

  • Team Impact: Acting as a technical anchor for the Shopify ecosystem, providing clear documentation and mentoring others on best practices.

  • Proactive Problem Solving: Identifying and resolving complex checkout or integration issues before they impact the partner experience.

What is my potential for career growth?
  • Opportunity to own the technical roadmap for global Shopify storefronts.

  • Direct involvement in high-stakes projects like headless Shopify migrations and advanced app extensions.

  • Networking with a global team of elite developers and e-commerce experts.

  • Growth into leadership roles as the Shopify development team continues to expand.

What does success look like in the first 30, 60, 90 days?
  • 30 Days: Complete a full technical audit of the current ecosystem, build relationships with cross-functional teams, and begin contributing to high-priority maintenance tasks.

  • 60 Days: Finalize the technical roadmap for the storefront revamp and begin executing the migration of legacy systems to modern Shopify Plus standards.

  • 90 Days: Successfully deploy a major architectural improvement or custom application that measurably enhances the partner experience and sets the foundation for future commerce innovations.

What is the team like?
