Visual Designer
Department: Marketing and Communications
Status: Full-time, Exempt

The International School of San Francisco is seeking a creative and versatile Visual Designer to join our Marketing and Communications team. This role combines digital, brand, and multimedia work with traditional publication design, including our annual school magazine and impact report. The ideal candidate has a strong design sensibility, hands-on experience creating compelling branded visual content, and the ability to translate complex ideas into engaging visuals across different platforms and for different teams.
 

Key Responsibilities

Digital & Multimedia Design
  • Create engaging digital assets for web, social media, and other digital platforms, including content for campaigns, events, and storytelling initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications, Admissions, and Advancement teams to conceptualize and execute visual content strategies.
  • Design engaging, on-brand emails and newsletters that drive engagement and maintain visual consistency across platforms.
Print & Publication Design
  • Lead the design and end-to-end production of the annual school magazine and impact report, overseeing concept development, layout, content integration, and final delivery to ensure both publications reflect the organization's vision and values.
  • Develop and implement visually compelling layouts, refined typography, and impactful imagery across all print materials to enhance readability, engagement, and brand consistency.
  • Coordinate with external printers, production vendors, and internal stakeholders to manage timelines, resolve challenges, and guarantee the seamless, on-budget delivery of all print materials.
Content Creation
  • Capture, edit, and curate high-quality photography that authentically represents the school's mission, community, and events, for use across digital and print platforms. Experience with video content creation and editing is a plus.
  • Collaborate on the planning, creative direction, and execution of photo shoots to achieve strategic messaging goals, ensuring each session aligns with brand standards and storytelling objectives. Experience providing creative input or support for video shoots is a plus and valued for multimedia projects.
  • Develop, organize, and manage a comprehensive digital asset library for ongoing use by designated departments, ensuring efficient access and adherence to best practices for digital asset management.
Brand & Visual Strategy
  • Partner with key stakeholders to help define, shape, and continually evolve the school's visual identity, ensuring it accurately reflects the school's mission, values, and aspirations across all platforms.
  • Establish and reinforce adherence to brand standards across all designs, templates, and collateral by implementing clear guidelines, reviewing creative work, and providing feedback to maintain a unified and professional visual presence.
  • Deliver creative and strategic design support for presentations, events, and campaigns, collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop materials that enhance audience engagement and advance organizational goals.

Qualifications
Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in digital, multimedia, and print design, with a strong portfolio showcasing these projects.
  • A link to your online portfolio demonstrating relevant design work.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and strong skills in typography, layout, and composition.
  • Experience with photography, including shooting, lighting, and editing; videography skills are a plus. Creative and skilled in visual storytelling.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and multiple project types.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging in design practices.

Preferred

  • Experience designing annual reports, magazines, or institutional publications.
  • Knowledge of video storytelling, motion graphics, and basic animation.
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) and web design.
  • Experience in an educational or nonprofit setting.

Salary range from $85,000 to $95,000 depending on experience.
