What Is a Visual Designer?

A visual designer creates designs for clients. Their responsibilities include designing the visual aspects of advertisements, marketing campaigns, and products. Specific job duties vary depending on their employer or clients. For example, they may create product labels, layout print publications, or design web pages. They often meet with clients to determine their needs, collaborate with other graphic designers, create design plans, and submit sketches and project proposals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Visual Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Visual Designer, you need strong proficiency in graphic design principles, typography, color theory, and a portfolio demonstrating your creative work, often supported by a degree in design or a related field. Expertise in industry-standard tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and familiarity with prototyping tools like Figma or Sketch are typically required. Exceptional communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills help Visual Designers work effectively with clients and cross-functional teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for creating compelling visuals that align with brand goals and ensure a seamless user experience.

How does a Visual Designer typically collaborate with other teams during a project?

Visual Designers frequently collaborate with cross-functional teams such as product managers, UX/UI designers, developers, and marketing specialists. Throughout a project, they participate in brainstorming sessions, provide visual concepts, and iterate on feedback from stakeholders to ensure the final design aligns with both user needs and business goals. Effective communication and adaptability are key, as Visual Designers often need to balance creative vision with technical or brand requirements. This collaborative environment helps ensure cohesive and impactful visual experiences across digital and print platforms.

What are Visual Designers?

Job description

About Iru

Iru is the AI-powered security & IT platform used by the world's fastest-growing companies to secure their users, apps, and devices. Built for the AI era, Iru unifies identity & access, endpoint security & management, and compliance automation-collapsing the stack and giving IT & security time and control back.

Iru is backed by some of the smartest investors in tech-General Catalyst, Tiger Global, Felicis, Greycroft, and First Round Capital. In July 2024, Iru raised $100 million from General Catalyst, valuing the company at $850 million. Customers include Notion, Cursor, Lovable, Replit, and Mercor, and Iru partners with industry leaders such as ServiceNow and AWS. Iru was named to Forbes' America's Best Startup Employers 2025 list for employee engagement and satisfaction.

The Opportunity

Iru is looking for a Visual Designer to join our in-house Brand Studio. You'll work alongside our Senior Visual Designer to bring the Iru brand to life across every surface: website, digital ads, events, social, email, PDFs, and more.

This is a great role for a designer who is early in their career but already has a strong point of view, a clean modern aesthetic, and the hunger to do their best work inside a fast-moving company. You'll have real ownership over assets that ship, direct access to marketing leadership, and a senior designer to learn from and collaborate with every day.

Your role is a mix of executing briefs and contributing ideas, pushing quality, helping build something that looks and feels distinctly Iru.

Must be able to work Tuesday through Thursday onsite in our Coral Gables office if role moves to full time.

What You'll Do

Design and Production

  • Design and produce marketing assets across digital ads, social media, email, event materials, presentations, and PDFs
  • Support website design projects, translating brand direction into clean, conversion-focused page layouts
  • Create product-centric visuals that accurately represent the Iru platform and communicate its value clearly
  • Contribute to Figma libraries, design components, and style guide elements to keep execution consistent and efficient

Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Senior Visual Designer on larger brand and web projects, taking ownership of defined workstreams
  • Partner with the web developer to ensure designs are executed accurately in production
  • Collaborate with PMMs, content, and paid media to turn briefs into ad assets that perform

Brand Stewardship

  • Maintain visual consistency across all marketing touchpoints
  • Develop a deep understanding of the Iru product so your designs reflect what it actually does, not just what looks good
What We're Looking For
  • Experience in a design role, in-house or agency
  • A strong portfolio. It does not need to be long, but every piece in it should be something you are proud of and can speak to.
  • Solid fundamentals: typography, layout, color, and composition
  • Proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Attention to detail that shows up in the work, not just on your resume
  • Collaborative and receptive to feedback. You take direction well and make it better.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver on time without constant check-ins
Nice to Have
  • Experience with motion graphics (After Effects or similar)
  • Familiarity with designing for B2B SaaS or technical products
  • Basic understanding of web constraints and how designs translate to code
  • Any exposure to brand system thinking or design documentation
  • Create beautiful UI/UX wireframes and elevate the overall experience through thoughtful design.
  • Experience maintaining a clear and easy to use Figma component library.
