Job Description:

Job Duck is seeking a highly organized Legal Assistant to support a busy civil litigation law firm handling sensitive and complex matters. In this role, you will play an essential part in keeping cases organized and moving forward by managing records, calendars, court deadlines, filings, correspondence, and other critical administrative tasks. The ideal candidate is empathetic and comfortable working with individuals who may be navigating difficult or traumatic circumstances, while also demonstrating discretion, reliability, strong attention to detail, and excellent follow through. This opportunity is especially well suited for someone who can work independently, think proactively, communicate clearly, and confidently keep an attorney accountable to important deadlines and commitments.

Monthly Compensation: 1,150 to 1,220 USD

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Maintain a high level of responsiveness and availability throughout scheduled working hours

Help identify potential issues and take initiative to resolve them independently when appropriate

Communicate clearly and promptly regarding task status, priorities, availability, and potential challenges

Help fine tune and expand the firm's training playbook as processes evolve

Follow appropriate security protocols and take proactive steps to prevent information security risks

Support the firm's mission of providing thoughtful and trauma informed legal assistance to clients navigating sensitive circumstances

Handle sensitive client and case information with a high level of confidentiality and discretion

Track important deadlines and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks

Draft professional letters and legal correspondence

Maintain and manage calendars

Schedule hearings for motions

Follow established firm procedures, training materials, and the firm's internal playbook

Support the attorney with day to day case management and administrative needs

Assist with light billing tasks and related administrative responsibilities

Maintain organized case related information and documentation

Proactively remind and hold the attorney accountable for upcoming deadlines, appointments, and commitments

Draft and file motions and other legal documents

Monitor Connecticut judicial websites for relevant updates and information

Obtain records and follow up on outstanding records requests

Requirements:


Working hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST
Some flexibility in working hours may be available
Time zone: Eastern Standard Time


Experience working in a law firm is preferred
Experience with civil litigation, education law, employment law, human rights, personal injury, or crime victim matters is beneficial
Bilingual English and Spanish skills are a plus, but Spanish is not mandatory
Strong English communication skills and a clear, easy to understand accent are required
Must be comfortable handling highly sensitive, confidential, and potentially explicit legal information
The role may involve exposure to post trauma conversations, sensitive evidence, and matters involving victims of sexual abuse and other serious crimes
Candidates should understand that the nature of the firm's work may involve exposure to vicarious trauma
Strong awareness of confidentiality, information security, and data protection is essential
Due to the sensitive nature of the firm's cases and previous information security concerns, additional security measures such as a virtual machine may be required
Must be highly reliable and responsive during working hours
Must be comfortable being transparent about availability, workload, and task progress
Must demonstrate strong judgment when handling confidential information and communications
Strong numerical skills are beneficial due to occasional billing responsibilities
