OSP Fiber Project Manager

Position Overview
The OSP Fiber Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the construction and implementation of Outside Plant (OSP) fiber optic infrastructure projects. This role involves managing project schedules, budgets, resources, and stakeholder communication to ensure successful project delivery. The Project Manager will work closely with internal teams, subcontractors, utility companies, and local authorities to ensure fiber deployment meets technical specifications, safety regulations, and customer requirements. This is a field-based position that requires on job sites, lead crews, and keep fiber construction projects moving. The Project Manager will have supervision of internal employees and external subcontractors. The current project scope is in the state of Michigan, and the Project Manager will be expected to travel throughout the state (75%+ travel).
Job Duties
  • Involved in developing and managing project plans, timelines, budgets, and scopes of work for OSP fiber deployments.
  • Oversee permitting processes, including right-of-way (ROW), easements, and pole attachment agreements.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Supervise field construction activities, including aerial and underground fiber installation, splicing, and testing.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and utility companies to resolve challenges in the field.
  • Conduct site visits to inspect quality and progress, ensuring adherence to safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Track materials, equipment, and workforce deployment to optimize efficiency.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, internal teams, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate regular project meetings and provide status updates to leadership and clients.
  • Address and resolve project risks, delays, and conflicts proactively.
  • Ensure all construction and installation activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, FCC, NESC).
  • Ensure the proper care and maintenance of any vehicle and equipment assigned including regular inspections, maintenance checks, and prompt reporting of any issues to the appropriate supervisor or maintenance personnel.
  • React safely and appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Report and respond timely and accurately to the supervisor.
  • Participate in employee and professional training events as assigned.
  • Travel 75% for on-site job duty training, projects, or meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and work rules.

Qualifications
  • Required: 5+ years of experience in OSP fiber project management, construction, or telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Required: 3+ years of experience in fiber splicing management.
  • Required: Strong understanding of OSP fiber optic design, permitting, and construction processes.
  • Required: Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (NESC, NEC, OSHA, DOT, etc.).
  • Required: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Required: Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Preferred: Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, SAP, Ocius-X) and GIS/mapping tools.
