Job Description:

The Mechanical Engineering Manager provides leadership, coaching, mentoring, design and development of packaging equipment components and systems to facilitate the manufacturing process, assembly, and commissioning. Functions as the lead worker to guide the work activities of mechanical designers and engineers. Develop and measure progress through metrics and tangible goals as well as enforce policies for organizational excellence.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

KRA #1 –Leadership Excellence

  • Inspire and develop high-performing teams through clear vision, accountability, and leading by example.
  • Build a culture of continuous improvement by driving innovation, establishing scalable processes, and leveraging systems and visual KPIs to manage performance.
  • Communicate with clarity and consistency; cascade key company messages to ensure alignment, engagement, and buy-in at all levels.
  • Lead with integrity and resilience, especially thought change, while upholding Viking Masek’s values and performance expectations.
  • Actively advocate for company direction and decisions

KRA #2 - Project Planning, Execution, and Process Management:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute oversight of engineering projects
  • Ensure projects meet specifications, budget, and timeline
  • Provide and/or delegate services for the successful installation, startup, and commissioning of equipment
  • Manage outside contractors as needed for specialty or capacity needs
  • Provide continuous improvement to engineering processes to increase efficiency

KRA #3 - Engineering, Design, and Development:

  • Design, develop, and test mechanical systems, and components for packaging machinery and automation
  • Apply engineering principles to design, test, evaluate, and implement new designs
  • Troubleshoot designs internally and with external customers or service providers
  • Create and maintain mechanical component and systems documentation (BOMs, spares, flow charts, part drawings, and assembly drawings)
  • Review of OEM equipment and commercial item specifications
  • Prepare and review engineering documentation

KRA #4 - Collaboration, Communication, and Continuous Improvement:

  • Communicate mechanical design intent to other departments
  • Collaborate with other managers, customers, and vendors to align expectations, requirements, and deliverables
  • Work closely with the Service/Production Manager to coordinate assembly operations
  • Work cross-functionally to improve companywide processes.
  • Stay updated with industry training and continuous improvement practices.
  • Adhere to company and departmental SOPs.

KRA #5 - Research and Innovation:

  • Research and evaluate new technologies, methods, and best practices
  • Identify, communicate, and build business needs strategies based on technological advances

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Mechanical Engineering program, or related discipline or equivalent experience and specialized training.
  • At least 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate, inspire, coach, and develop a team of engineers and technicians.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, customers, and vendors.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PDM and various design software.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to handle complex and challenging engineering and staffing issues.
  • Attention to detail, quality, and safety, with the ability to adhere to engineering standards and regulations.
  • Highly analytical, creative, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and innovatively.
  • May travel on company business (15%).
